Moyo wa Afrika, founded in 2012,is a fully-registered non-profit organization, recognized both in the United States and Tanzania. Moyo wa Afrika helps communities in Tanzania by supporting local initiatives in healthcare and education.

Our mission
Moyo wa Afrika aims to assist in the development of remote villages throughout Tanzania by increasing access to health and education services. Our goal is to support community-led initiatives in these sectors.

What we do
• Girls' Center: In 2015, Moyo wa Afrika opened a Girls' Center, where girls from local villages come to live while learning life skills, receiving computer training, and learning English. Once they graduate from the Girls' Center, Moyo pays for them to go on to get certificate training that can lead to jobs in industries such as tourism and educationEducation Sponsorship: One of the most exciting programs that Moyo wa Afrika has implemented is secondary school sponsorship. Secondary school is private in Tanzania and not compulsory past primary school. This can make pursuing higher education impossible for many students. Moyo has sponsored more than 30 students so that they can attend school and eventually go to college if they so choose.
• Healthcare: Moyo wa Afrika has worked with local organizations to get members of the community much needed medical care. From obtaining lifesaving surgeries to prescription eyeglasses, our community members can turn to us for help when they're in need.
• Basic Needs: Moyo wa Afrika supports initiatives to help meet the basic needs of those in our community. One of those initiatives is Tiny Toes Tanzania, an annual fundraising project that provides shoes to children who need them. To date, we have been able to give away over 500 pairs of shoes to children in our community.
• Lunch program: Additionally, Moyo wa Afrika received a grant from the World Hunger Coalition to fund a lunch program to feed over 600 primary school students at Engaruka Chini Primary School.
• Food security: We also secured a grant from The Pollination Project to help create food security for children at Arushani Kindergarten in Engaruka by creating a garden and rain harvesting system at the school, which will be used to provide more food options for the students during the school day.
