About us

Latin American Foundation for the Future (LAFF) is a UK registered charity, working with partner organisations in Peru to help disadvantaged children and young people build a better future.

We envision a Latin America where all children and young people have full support in accessing education and equal life opportunities.

Our mission is to work with local partners to improve our long-term ability to provide quality education and personal development to children and young people in vulnerable conditions in Peru.

LAFF’s team is based in Cusco and currently supports four partner organisations and over 100 young people in Cusco and across the Sacred Valley region. LAFF is also a part of the ‘Semilla Nueva’ Network of NGOs in Cusco – the members of which collaborate to improve the working environment for charities operating in the Cusco region.and over 100 young people in Cusco and across the Sacred Valley region.

Programmes
Education:
• Formal Education and Training: LAFF wants to make sure that 100% of the young people it works with have access to education and training opportunities. We will do this by providing adequate funds for materials, school fees and tutors and by monitoring their academic progress (and intervening when necessary).
• Personal and Career Development: This programme is all about providing our beneficiaries with workshops and guidance – and helping them form an idea of the kind of career they want to get in to and how to achieve it.
Sustainability:
• Project Management and Funding: Ultimately, the goal for all of our partner organisations is for them to become sustainable and independent and to improve their capacity. In order to achieve this, LAFF has committed to providing assistance, financial support and human resources to projects that work towards this goal. The renewable energy programme built solar power showers in several of our Partner Projects, enabling them to reduce their costs.
• Consultancy and Training: By regularly assessing the needs of our partner organisations and adjusting our output accordingly, LAFF can provide expertise and guidance to staff in order to help them understand and cope with the demands of their work. This is essential to capacity building and will allow the staff in our Partner Projects to provide better quality assistance to the young people they work with.
Social Enterprise: The ultimate goal of this programme is for the projects to become sustainable by reinvesting the profits of their social enterprise. LAFF provides human resources, financial support and advice where necessary along with market research and analysis, and assistance with the creation and implementation of business strategies.
• Taller Mantay: Taller Mantay is run by the young women (who once were beneficiaries) from Casa Mantay who work hard to produce beautiful, handmade leather products.
• Arte Floral: Arte Floral is one of Casa Mantay’s social enterprises that sells flower arrangements made by the young women from the project.
• Experiencia Mantay: Mantay’s new offer is Experiencia Mantay. This is a touristic experience that consists of a visit to the leather workshop of Taller Mantay and the house of Casa Mantay.
• Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles: Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles, as it is known in full, is one of Mosqoy’s social enterprises. The project works with over 200 weavers (mostly female) in the Sacred Valley region and sells their products in North America – predominantly at fairs in Canada
• Field School: Mosqoy’s other social enterprise is a sustainable tourism experience.
