About us

Council for Green Revolution (CGR), a Non-profit Environmental Organization, based at Hyderabad, was founded on 22 April 2010 (Earth Day) to work on pressing environmental issues.
CGR works towards conservation of nature and promotion of sustainable development goals. The organizations areas of work includes local to global environmental concerns like, loss of biodiversity, dwindling natural resources, desertification, pollution, climate change, environmental security etc.

Vision CGR envisions a healthy and livable planet earth in which societies are environmentally conscious, eco-resilient, and caring the nature and all life forms.

Mission CGR strives to build earth leadership and promote societal responsibility for conservation of nature, sustainable development.

Focus areas
• Restoring Green (Tree) cover CGR goal is to facilitate plantation of 10 million saplings. It has been instrumental in massive tree plantation of over 3.2 million saplings through school children in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh so far.
• Conservation of Ecosystems CGR strives to conserve the natural heritage and fragile ecosystems by making conservation a public agenda in the country. Initiate the conservation campaign for Eastern Ghats natural systems ranges of peninsular India which are under the threshold of dying from unprecedented threats from human.
• Sustainable Development Goals CGR is making efforts to localize the agenda of UN SDGs which are comprehensive and guides the sustainable development. CGRs initiatives and outreach touches upon many SGG goals and sub objectives. The organization is making efforts to create inspiring examples in the form of Green Villages.
• Earth Leadership CGRs emphasizes the role of sensitization, awareness, capacity building for catalyzing a positive and creative action in the society to save the natures integrity while reaping the benefits of sustainable development. CGR has been in the forefront of inculcating environmental consciousness and nurturing Earth leadership among children. CGR is coming up with world class centre of excellence towards this initiative near Hyderabad.

Initiatives
• Inspire Green – 10 million tree campaign: CGR has taken up massive tree plantation largely through high school children with a two pronged objectives i.e., restoration of degraded ecosystems and to nurture earth leadership. Also the plantation was taken up in other innovative programmes such as Samskruthi (plantation in the name of departed family members and beloved ones) Prakruthi (plantation in temples), Kalam Smuruthivanam (plantation in school compounds), Kasturi Balikavanam ( plantation in KGBV schools), Seed balls etc
• GrACE (Green’s Alliance for Conservation of Eastern ghats): GrACE was founded with an aim to provide an ideal platform for the protection of the hill ranges of the Eastern Ghats and its ecosystems.
• Sustainable Village: CGR envisage a sustainable, green, livable smart village where equity, ecology and economy go together. With the conjunction of ancient wisdom and modern knowledge, the proposed initiative shall catalyze smart growth in rural areas by wisely utilizing the available natural resources, strengthen local self-governance. All the relevant sustainable development goals are facilitated. Initial efforts are encouraging in Silarpalli, where the 200 houses in the habitat is transformed to a grove of 7000 plants. Apart from plantation and protection of trees, the village making steady strides towards 100% sanitation, organic farming, rich bio diversity, energy conservation, safe drinking water and healthy habitate.
• Earth Centre: The Earth Centre, proposed by Council for Green Revolution (CGR) is an independent think tank and premier environmental education and research centre that will strive towards realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which were set by United Nations.
• Sustainable Development Goals: CGR is aiming to promote Sustainable Development Goals and has been developing an agenda, through consultations, that gels with Indian scenario or administrative, ecology and sociological contexts.
