About us

The Chemnitz Nature Farm was founded in 1995 as a non profit-making organisation, with the aim of advancing the preservation of the countryside and the conservation of nature. Since then it has been campaigning for the preservation, care and development of conservation areas and ecological compensation areas in the urban districts of Chemnitz.

We focus on:
• the planning and implementation of landscape preservation measures as well as biotope and wild life conservation measures.
• the promotion of ecological cultivation, in particular the maintenance and care of managed grasslands with fruit trees.
• further education talks, and seminars on topics related to nature conservancy.
• the encouragement of children and young people to think in terms of nature conservancy.
• the promotion of landscape variety.
• Increasing public awareness of environmental and natural preservation issues by means of comprehensive PR work.
• offering advice on questions of wildlife conservation.

Projects
• managed grasslands with fruit trees: we maintain these in Reichenbrand, Altchemnitz, Ebersdorf and Draisdorf. The apples from these meadows are picked by large groups of volunteers, then made into our “Original Chemnitz Meadow Apple Juice”.
• Pasture: extensive grazing of conservation areas in the town of Chemnitz by German Angus cattle and German Buren goats. The aim of the project is to prevent open and semi-open land areas from reverting to scrubland, thus protecting plant and animal species whose habitat is endangered.
• Maintenance of conservation areas. mowing meadows to maintain designated areas of natural beauty and ecological compensation areas around Chemnitz. The purpose of mowing these lands once or twice is to maintain and develop valuable meadow biotopes as a prerequisite for the occurrence of rare flora and fauna and a large variety of species.
• Information Centre "Wildlife protection in buildings": Here we offer advice to house owners, architects and the general public about animal species which live inside buildings. In addition, we can provide a wide range of nesting aids, and produce various special nesting boxes.
• Environment education: excursions, guided tours and educational walks in Chemnitz conservation areas, for adults, school classes and kindergarten groups, are an important part of future-oriented nature conservancy.

Susann Enzmann is the President of Chemnitz Nature Farm (Society for Advancing the Preservation of the Countryside and for Nature Conservation).

On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation and provide up to date information and contacts in the field of our work.
