About us

Worldrise is an ONLUS (Organizzazione non lucrativa di utilità sociale)created by young people for young people. It develops projects to conserve and safeguard the marine environment, which are based on awareness-raising, creativity and education. Worldrise projects are designed and ran with students and graduates, in order to facilitate the gain of professional knowledge and skills, and educate the future guardians of the Italian natural heritage. We act for nature!

Worldrise originated from the passion and dedication of a group of young people from different professional background, who decided share their skills, values and goals. Worldrise was founded in 2013 by Mariasole Bianco, president and founder of the project. After completion of a master in Marine Protected Areas Management in Australia, Mariasole decided to put into practice the skills learnt abroad in the country where her love for the sea first blossomed.

We are now a team of 20 young people, working on a variety of different projects ranging from Marine Protected Areas and Ecotourism, to Sustainable Fisheries and Plastic Pollution in the Ocean. Our projects all involve the public and private sector, citizens, researchers and students, because we believe that when people get together for the Ocean, magic happens. Our approach is a bottom-up one: we believe that educating people about our wonderful and fragile marine ecosystems, and engaging them in being the solution, are the key to protecting our Blue Planet.

Projects:
• Worldrise Walls: The aim of Worldrise Walls is to bring the wonders of the sea in the city , but also its problems, highlighting that everyone can be part of the solution. Street art is the system use to do it. In order to do so, we have decided to use street art. (through the use of street art/ using street art). We ART for Nature, because our projects have the goal of (re)connecting people and nature, especially in the urban context. Cities are the place where the majority of people are but, at the same time, are the places where nature is almost absent.
• A-Mare the Aeolian Islands: Promotion and dissemination of cultural and environmental values of coastal marine environments of the Aeolian Islands. It is divided into several activities: Conferences and educational events; Disclosure; Video Interviews
• #Batti5 for a cleaner sea: A creative and educational project to build awareness among the younger generation on the threats of plastic pollution to our ocean.
• Full Immersion MPAs - Marine Protected Areas: A series of educational activities and scientific studies to enhance the environmental value of Marine Protected Areas.
• The Gulf of Dolphins - Golfo Aranci, Sardinia: Creation and promotion of new forms of economic and social development, based on the valorisation of local natural resources.
• SEAstainable SEAfood Guide - in collaboration with Cookin'Med: Educate on sustainable fishing and the responsible use of seafood, created in collaboration with the best Mediterranean chefs.
• No Plastic More Fun - #TargetPlasticFree: To create a network of multi-purpose venues, bars and restaurants committed to the common goal of eliminating single-use plastics.
