About us

BioWise Solutions a registered Non-Profit Organisation and Public Benefit Organisation. We are a solutions-focused and opportunity-focused social enterprise with education for action as our primary function.

Vision
A world modelled on natural ecosystems and processes where all life thrives as part of a waste-free, inter-dependent, resourceful, resilient and regenerative system.

Mission
To effect positive change by promoting and enabling the practice of biomimicry i.e. of learning from and emulating life’s genius.

Our purpose is to inspire and enable the uptake of biomimicry by individuals and households, by professionals and academia, by businesses and industry, by organisations and schools, by towns and communities and by municipalities and government.

Our purpose is to facilitate the uptake of biomimicry by creating a biomimicry hub here in the heart of the Garden Route that will serve as model and inspiration for others and effectively be the pulse of biomimicry throughout Africa. This biomimicry hub will be an [eco]system in its own rights, one that is inspired by and modelled on natural ecosystems and measured by the standards of our natural world.

So, we have:
• undertaken studies, developed conceptual designs and marketing material, assembled a design team, and are busy networking and fundraising for the establishment of the world’s first biomimicry discovery park (our biggest forest giant)
• developed resources, given presentations, established partnerships and run campaigns all in preparation for the launch of a movement to inspire and enable the community of Knysna to become a biomimicry community of practice and the first ‘bio-wise’ town (our second forest giant)
• developed concept documents, had meetings, and are in the process of establishing agreements to get biomimicry research and innovation happening as a precursor to the establishment of a biomimicry research & innovation centre (our third forest giant)

We have already started with three of the four fruits/functions:
• Inspire: We inspire and motivate by means of Presentations; Social Media; Awareness campaigns and celebrating successes:
• Educate: We offer Teacher Workshops; School and community programmes; Staff awareness programmes; Biomimicry educational experiences; Special Events; Consultation and Training.
• Activate: We offer the BioWise Blueprint and Journey; Bio-Wise Projects and Networking & Volunteering.
