About us

Welwitschia e.V. – Cooperative Education Projects in Germany and Namibia is an organisation, founded in 2012, that carries out projects together with Namibian actors in Germany and Namibia. In order to achieve the goal of a partnership at eye level, it is important to us to bring this cooperative focus to bear in our work. At the same time we want to promote knowledge and understanding of German-Namibian relations and therefore understand each other as an information and dialogue platform in Germany and Namibia.
One of the first activities of the association was to support the development of Welwitschia in Namibia, which focuses on application training and career guidance. The organization has been completely independent of Welwitschia since 2015.

Welwitschia e.V. – Cooperative education projects in Germany and Namibia has the vision that German-Namibian relations are characterised by mutual understanding, strong ties and encounters at eye level.
To achieve this, Welwitschia e.V. carries out cooperative projects in Germany and Namibia. These projects aim to promote mutual understanding, reduce inequalities and disadvantages in the areas of education and society and strengthen the German-Namibian partnership.

Projects:
• Nam Career Service: The Nam Career Service is one of the largest Facebook pages in Namibia and has become a popular contact point for young people seeking advice on education and career guidance.
• ASA: In two rounds a German-Namibian tandem worked for three months each in Germany and Namibia on one topic. ASA 2017 – Perspectives on Colonialism: The German-Namibian relationship yesterday, today and tomorrow. ASA 2015 – Educational events within the framework of an equal South-North exchange.
• Lectures and workshops: It is not always possible to establish a direct exchange between Germany and Namibia. In the course of the mutual understanding we try to get attention by means of lectures and workshops as well as to give information on Namibian topics.
• weltwärts – Youth-Project 2018/19: In the Namibian-German exchange project “Same same but different” you can deal with the image of yourself and the other culture, discuss prejudices and discover commonalities. In a group of young Germans and Namibians you will experience differences and above all connecting elements between you and others through different methods and common experiences. You have the opportunity to get an insight into the everyday life of Germans of your age and to show things of everyday life to others and to see them from a new perspective. To ensure that as many people as possible – even outside the project – can benefit from this important learning process and your findings, formative elements are to be documented and processed.
