Sobre nosotros

The association Nyota - for children in Africa was founded in Mannheim in 2003, with the aim of helping orphans and young people in West Kenya. Initially, the foundation was the result of a private initiative of the late co-founder Bärbel Kirschenlohr. She had assisted orphans in Kenya on a private basis in the years prior to the club's founding, by funding school sponsorships and awarding family allowances.
With the project work on site, Nyota wants to make a sustainable contribution to development cooperation in West Kenya. However, it is important for the association to do this under the aspect of "helping people to help themselves".

Our goals
The work in Kenya involves education, nutrition, health and the environment

Our work:
• Education is an essential and important step on the way out of the vicious circle of poverty. That's why Nyota tries to provide targeted education for orphaned children, as their foster families usually do not have the necessary resources. Through the work in the daycare centre and the subsequent mediation of a school sponsorship, this should be ensured.
• In addition to promoting education, Nyota is also committed to the basic medical care of the children in its charge, to environmental protection and to securing basic food supplies through sustainable cultivation methods. Children and young people are included in the cultivation projects in order to lay the foundations for sustainability in these and subsequent generations. The goal is to sustainably improve the living conditions of local people and to preserve nature as a valuable basis for all life.
• All activities of the association Nyota are carried out in close cooperation with the team of Nyota CBO in Kenya.
• The 10-person Kenyan Nyota team looks after the orphans at the day care centre as well as more than 100 children in primary and secondary school sponsorship programs.
• On site in Kenya, the project is coordinated and managed by project manager Wyclife Oyugi. Once or twice a year, members of the board travel to Kenya, and volunteers from Germany are also present for several months a year.

Alexander Krziwanie is the chairman of Nyota - for children in Africa.
