About us

Silbernetz is a non-profit project under the umbrella of the Humanist Association of Germany, HVD Berlin-Brandenburg KdöR. Silbernetz is also supported by the Silbernetz e.V. non-profit association founded in 2016.

Silbernetz is a network for lonely or isolated older people with emergency phone, friendship service and bridge to what is available in the neighbourhood.

Silbernetz is:
• A free emergency phone number for elderly, lonely or isolated people for a personal conversation 24/7. The conversation is anonymous, confidential and free. We listen, share, encourage and give immediate information. On request we can arrange a silver net friend.
• Friendship Service: Once a week, our volunteer Silbernetz friends phone an elderly lonely person for one hour, if they want it. This is personal contact and confidential conversation - regular and reliable. They ask questions and listen. They can encourage initial steps out of isolation. They have information about what is available in the neighbourhood. On request, they can provide professional assistance in cases of violence and neglect.
• Closing the gap between providers of care for the elderly, who do not reach such people in any other way, and lonely older people who can not access these offers otherwise. Silbernetz establishes links between what is available in the neighbourhood and the older people that need them and whom they can help, and supports the maintenance of regional databases such as the “Berlin Hilfelotsen”.

In this combination of anonymous contact, personal connection and networking to the numerous offers for older people, Silbernetz is a unique source of help and contact for older people in Germany.

Projects:
• GEiA! - The Silbernetz Campaign Against loneliness in old age !: The aim of the Silbernetz campaign GEiA! - Against loneliness in old age! is to raise public awareness of the problem of aging and its health, social and economic consequences, and to combat it together with politics and science, business and society.

Elke Schilling is the initiator and project manager of Silbernetz.

On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
