About us
Photographers Without Borders (PWB), founded in 2006, is a registered not-for-profit organization in the US and a registered not-for-profit organization in Canada.
Our vision
We dream of a world that is connected visually and through story so that new realities, solutions, and possibilities may be manifested. Our goal is to make storytelling more accessible for non-profits and NGOs around the world.
Our mission
We connect volunteer photographers and videographers (storytellers) to our many grassroots causes, NGOs and nonprofit partners through the PWB Program. We carefully select our storyteller and NGO partners based on criteria largely focusing on need, relationship with the community, and impact in fulfilling the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
We believe grassroots efforts are of significant importance because they are created for the people by the people. Our hope is that by amplifying grassroots voices, building their capacity for communication, decolonizing the storytelling process, and fostering ethical relationships between storytellers and stories, we can make a powerful difference.
Every year, our photographers and videographers donate their talent and time to document the work of grassroots initiatives that are making real change. By capturing, honouring and witnessing humanity at its best, we are forging new narratives of what is possible.
Programs:
• PWB Program: The PWB Program is at the centre of everything we do. We recognize that storytelling is a crucial component for any nonprofit or NGO to get their message across in today's world. Photographs and videos are invaluable ways of communicating messages, sharing perspectives, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and inspiring others, however they are not always accessible to all nonprofits and NGOs. That's why we focus on partnering with those NGOs in need all over the world who are contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (a list of 17 goals that globally aim to address everything from healthcare, to women's empowerment, to human rights, to sustainability and innovation). The PWB Program is designed to connect the right storytellers to the right partners.
• PWB School: Photography and storytelling are perhaps the most invaluable tools when it comes to creating movements and shifting mindsets through communication. We've crafted our PWB School workshops as a training ground for anyone who seeks seeks to learn these skills in an immersive environment where you have the chance to be mentored by working professionals with chances each day to create and learn in a conducive and uplifting environment. These are perfect for students, photographers (professional or amateur), marketing and communications professionals, international development professionals, social media professionals.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
