About us

Kilele Foundation is a registered Community Based Organization (CBO). The organization was founded in 2002 with a view to empowering local communities in Machakos County in Kenya to participate effectively towards sustainable community development.

Mission
To initiate and implement community development projects that are people-centered, gender responsive and socially, economically and environmentally sustainable.

Vision
To become a leading grassroot organization in promoting sustainable rural development in East Africa.

KF strategic objective is to alleviate extreme poverty among rural communities in Kenya through:-
• To empower youth and women economically through income generating activities especially agribusiness production;
• To create awareness and conduct campaigns among rural communities to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS and other lifestyle diseases;
• To promote the education of the poor particularly the girl child;
• To educate and sensitize the local community on environmental sustainability and management;
• To create awareness and advocacy for the rights of the disabled;
• To build the capacity of the youth and women to ensure participation in entrepreneurial activities (business skills training).

Focus areas

• Healthcare: To promote healthy eating habits and awareness creation on communicable and non-communicable diseases affecting the community and nation at large. Water and Sanitation

Ongoing Projects:
• Youth Exchange Program: This was a student exchange programme between the Ngumbulu Secondary School (a newly created village school in 2008) and State House Girls High School (a national school).
• Rural Enterprise Incubator program: It is meant to equip 2000 youth with entrepreneurship and business startup skills. Kilele Foundation is seeking funds to perform the activities of this program in an effective and efficient manner.
• Village Microcredit Scheme: An initiative to increase access to affordable credit among youth and women. This scheme is benefitting over 400 youth and women. Households are using the credit to cut on kerosene costs by purchasing solar lantern lamps (see cover page).
