About us

From Kibera With Love is a non profit organization started in 2012 by Marta Baeta, a portuguese woman. It helps kids of Kibera to change their lives.

Its mission is to alleviate poverty in the world's largest slum, Kibera, ensuring an education project for over 70 children that it supports.

The Kibera slum is located in Nairobi, Kenya and is the largest in Eastern Africa. It is home to 2.5 million slum dwellers-representing 60% of the city’s population and occupying just 6% of it’s land. The project offers an escape from the chaos of the slum, to an environment where the children’s self-development is priority. From Kibera With Love not only educates children, but helps them recognize their full potential and to become successful adults with the skills, values and critical judgment necessary to make free and informed decisions; gifting them the tools to escape the vicious cycle of poverty.

The association provides food, education and access to health care through the donations received, as well as through the sale of local handicrafts.
The association counts on the permanent participation of the founder of the project in the field, who manages and encourages the continuity of the association on a daily basis.
The project currently provides education, medical support, food, extracurricular activities, clothing and footwear to over 75 children. Many of these children come from single parent families living below the poverty line, in which one or more members can be considered fragile (HIV and AIDS/cancer patients or with functional and psychological limitations).
Our focus is on the children and consequently, their families. We practice a family-centered approach by investing in both the education and training of children and support and training for their families.
We engage parents on a deeper level through the Microcredit program, which enables families to earn income to improve their socioeconomic status and to become pillars of support in their children's lives. Not only do we strive to raise the awareness of children and their families to the problems of the community they belong to, but also of the environment and it’s wildlife.

Marta Baeta is the Founder of From Kibera With Love.
