About us

Dr Rudie and Marlice van Vuuren started N/a´an ku sê Foundation (a Charity) in 2006 to protect and conserve Namibia`s vulnerable wildlife and to improve the lives of the marginalised San Bushman community. N/a´an ku sê (Naankuse) is a San Bushman word that means “God will protect us”, or “God watches over us”.

Our vision is an Africa where humans and wildlife can live and thrive together. Our mission is to conserve the land, cultures and wildlife of Namibia and rescue species threatened by an ever-shrinking habitat.

We now run several projects including:
1. African Wildlife:
a. Our Wildlife Sanctuary provides a safe home for orphaned and injured animals who sadly cannot be released back into the wild
b. Our Carnivore Conservation Research Project researches and protects threatened wild cheetahs, leopards and brown hyena.

2. Carnivore Research (Wild Dog, Cheetah, Leopards):
a. Monitoring large predators through VHF and GPS based techniques
b. Translocation and subsequent monitoring of large predators
c. Game census, camera trapping, scat analyses, footprint identification

3. San Bushman Community:
a. Our Clever Cubs School provides free education for San Bushman Community children whose parents work for the foundation.
b. Our Lifeline Clinic provides free healthcare to the San Bushman Community in Epukiro.

Our philosophy is “Conservation through Innovation” and we strive to create sustainable and long-term solutions. It is our vision to play a pro-active role in nature conservation because we believe that we hold this invaluable heritage in our trust for future generations. We cannot undo what has been done... but we can shape our future.

We do not receive any government funding and are solely reliant on generous donations, ecotourism and the time of volunteers to continue our vital work to help the people and animals of Namibia. When you visit our unique Lodge, Neuras: N/a´an ku se Wine and Wildlife Estate, or volunteer at one of our projects, you can help to make our vision a reality. All profits from our activities go directly to benefit our work with wildlife conservation and the San Bushman Community.

Follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/Naankuse.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
