About us
Western Watersheds Project (WWP) is a non-profit conservation group founded in 1993 with 1400 members and with field offices in Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona and California. WWP is headquartered at the Greenfire Preserve in Clayton, Idaho. The group works to influence and improve public lands management in 8 western states with a primary focus on the negative impacts of livestock grazing on 250,000,000 acres of western public lands.
Western Watersheds Project works to protect and restore watersheds, wildlife habitat and wildlife on public lands throughout the western United States through scientific study, education, public policy initiatives, and litigation
WWP regularly employs field monitors to identify damaged watersheds and document abusive land-management practices. Monitors report livestock numbers on grazing allotments, turnout times, overgrazing, degradation of streams and streambanks, destruction of riparian and upland habitat and illegal diversions of water.

• WWP Education & Outreach: One of Western Watersheds Project`s lesser known but essential efforts is working with high-school and college students to provide on-site educational experiences about the degradation of public lands in the West by domestic livestock.
• RangeNet.: RangeNet.org, a network of individuals who are working to improve the ecological conditions of America`s public rangelands, is a semi-autonomous special project of Western Watersheds Project, Inc.
• Restoration: WWP manages the 432-acre the Greenfire Preserve on the East Fork of the Salmon River in Central Idaho
