Qui sommes-nous

Fondo de Conservación El Triunfo, A.C.(FONCET) is a non-profit organization originated in 2002 from the search for alternative solutions to the long-term financial needs of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.

FONCET was established with the intention of generating the necessary income to assure that all the Reserve`s contemplated programs and projects will be able to count on basic operational costs, and that its activities can proceed unimpeded by financial limitations.
FONCET`s mission is to both conserve the natural resources and promote the social development of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve and its region of influence by means of sustained, long-term economic support.

Programs
• Productive Projects: Organic Coffee; Chamaedorea Palm; Agrosilvopastoril Systems; Organic Honey Beekeeping); Sustainable Tourism
• Environmental education: The Quetzal Campaign has special significance because it is the only one that is entirely directed to environmental education, trying to develop awareness in communities about the importance of both conservation and their participation to reach that goal.
• Surveillance: The staff of the Reserve does not lessen efforts and they apply the Protection, Inspection and Surveillance Program aimed at preventing forest fires and protecting forest health and ecosystem vulnerability.
• Integral Fire Management: In 1999 the program of fire prevention and firefighting was established. What this program aims is to address the use of fire in the Reserve, creating awareness in communities to act responsibly to a forest that provides them with environmental and subsistence benefits.
• Restoration: It has been necessary to create awareness in local communities so they recognize the nature of the area they live in, the importance of restoration for the maintenance of hydrological and ecological processes, and to reduce human risk for possible landslides and floods.
• Environmental Services: The capture and sale of carbon credits are economic activities that begin to provide high financial returns in the modern world, as socially responsible companies are increasingly concerned for the environment and try to compensate for the damage they cause with their production systems.
• Land Conservation: Different conservation mechanisms are increasingly being used by land owners in the region because they provide certain advantages such as the legal confirmation of the conservation actions that they have been applying on their properties for some time, the legal security of those properties and the marketing benefits of those engaged in coffee production activities.
• Research and Monitoring: There are several multidisciplinary research projects that focus on different groups of animal and plant species. We support projects like the creation of a community monitoring network, the development of monitoring protocols for priority species, and the distribution of the information generated, among others.
• Social Participation: This concept considers the rights and responsibilities of each actor versus the environment, as well as two key notions involved in the concept of citizenship: equality and participation. The objective is to create involved citizens who understand and exert their environmental rights and, in turn, are willing to exercise their own environmental responsibility.
