Sobre nosotros

EcoPeace Middle East, formerly known as FoEME, is a unique organization that brings together Jordanians, Palestinians, and Israelis to create shared solutions for the most water-scarce region on the planet. Students are working together across borders, leaders are taking action, and real progress is being made. Our primary objective is the promotion of cooperative efforts to protect our shared environmental heritage. In so doing, we seek to advance both sustainable regional development and the creation of necessary conditions for lasting peace in our region. EcoPeace Middle East has offices in Amman, Bethlehem, and Tel-Aviv. EcoPeace Middle East is a member of Friends of the Earth International, the largest grassroots environmental organization in the world.

Our projects can be categorized according to the following themes:
• Geographical context - the Dead Sea Rift Valley runs from the Gulf of Aqaba / Eilat, in the south, along the Arava Valley, through the Dead Sea, up the Jordan River into the Sea of Galilee and beyond, connecting the peoples of the Eastern Mediterranean. Many of our projects are located along this shared, complex ecosystem.
• Socio-Economic based projects focus on issues such as sustainable water use, water privatization, trade, sustainable development, water as a human security issue, developing renewable energy and healthy food practices.
• Climate change stands on its own, as being one of the greatest environmental, social and economic threats facing the planet today, especially to our scarce water resources.

Projects:
• Good Water Neighbors (GWN): a project based on sets of cross-border partnering communities sharing a common water source, promoting environmental awareness & peace building
• Neighbours Paths – An important component of the Good Water Neighbours project, are its "Neighbours Paths"; these are trails that show the natural and cultural heritage of each one of our "Good Water Neighbor" communities and teach about their water resources both in the past and in the present - of BOTH partnering communities, giving a regional perspective to the tourist.
• Jordan River: The Jordan River is unique in its natural and cultural wealth, but is threatened by excessive water diversion and pollution, and treated as a backyard dumping ground. FoEME is working to reverse this situation.
• Dead Sea: The Dead Sea, a unique salt-lake, is the lowest point on the surface of the planet, but it is dropping by 1 meter every year! FoEME has been working for more than a decade, raising awareness and promoting the listing of the Dead Sea as a World Heritage Site
• FoEME EcoParks: whether to preserve biodiversity, or as a powerful tool for environmental education, they are important community based projects
• Jordan River Peace Park: a concrete first step towards rehabilitating the Jordan River, endorsed by the mayors and communities on both sides of the River
• Red-Dead Conduit: FoEME is closely monitoring the proposed building of a canal linking the Dead Sea and the Red Sea.
• Climate change: Climate change is one of the greatest environmental, social and economic threats facing the planet today... and a new threat to Middle East security
• Mt. Aquifer: Shared Israeli-Palestinian groundwater is threatened by pollution
• Pro-Aquifer: Protecting trans-boundary groundwater sources from pollution: research, training and guidelines for Israeli and Palestinian municipalities.
• Water, Peace & Environment
• Violent conflicts & the Environment
