Sobre nosotros

The Hope Foundation (HOPE) is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which works to protect and support street-connected and slum-dwelling children and families in Kolkata, India. HOPE implements 60+ projects in education, healthcare, vocational training, protection, and capacity building. Because all of HOPE’s projects operate in Kolkata, the function of the sister organizations in Ireland, the UK, and in the United States is to raise awareness and much needed funds for the vital humanitarian work that HOPE undertakes in Kolkata.

The organization was established in 1999 to provide protection and safety to 20 girls in Kolkata (Calcutta), India, who were forced to survive on the streets alone and vulnerable as young teenagers. Witnessing the abject poverty and violation of human rights faced by these girls, HOPE's active and voluntary founder, Maureen Forrest, was inspired to establish the organization. Her vision is of a world where it should never hurt to be a child.

HOPE’s primary objective is the protection of children who live on the streets and in the slums of Kolkata. Child protection is about rescuing Kolkata's forgotten children who have been victims or could be victims of trafficking, violence, abandonment, prostitution, sexual abuse, and severe neglect. It’s about protecting the most vulnerable in society and providing them with immediate care. Seeing the on-going need to create safe and nurturing shelters for at-risk children, our protection work continues to grow, providing counseling and education, as well as meeting physical human needs.

We work with 16 Indian partner organizations on projects in:
Healthcare: Healthcare projects and HOPE Hospital
Education
Child protection
Drug rehabilitation
Sanitation
Vocational training
Capacity building / awareness generation

For other net participants, we can offer guidance from our experienced staff members, an expert opinion, and help with establishing new connections and contacts in our humanitarian field of work.
