Qui sommes-nous
Project Africa is a non profit working to empower women and girls in rural Kenya. The Organization emphasizes on the need for Education, Health care and Enterprise development as tools that women can use to improve their livelihoods out of poverty. Project Africa was incorporated in Kenya as a non profit NGO in 2008, but its administration is in Sweden. The NGO works to promote gender equality, equity and empowerment of women in rural Africa.
Our Mission is to support social and economic empowerment for women and girls living in rural Africa through education and training, healthcare, and provision of resources needed for enterprise development.We aim to achieve this through our model of learning by doing and earning.
Our Activities
• Provide basic education and vocational training opportunities to rural girls and women through establishing educational centers nearer to the rural women and girls in need.
• Initiate, organize and implement human rights programs and workshops that would go to promote and protect the rights of women and girls in rural areas, and advocate for gender equality.
• Help in the alleviation of rural unemployment and poverty by encouraging women to create income generating activities and cottage industries. We provide women with business education, vocational skills and start up loans, equipment and working space to venture in various social enterprises.
• Support widows, single mothers and destitute girls with food, clothing, education, health and shelter.
• Create awareness and sensitization campaigns in rural centers on primary health care, family planning, immunization and vaccination, HIV/AIDS/STD, sanitation, and sex education and urge the community to shun harmful traditional practices that undermine the rights of women.
• Organize volunteer and work camps programs where local and international individuals and groups can join hands and skills with the local population to foster developmental activities.
Our projects
• Education: Project Africa conducts various training programmes every year for needy, rural women heading households. The women can join the Women’s Leadership Academy, or Farm school. Training and training materials are provided free of charge to the trainees.
• Health Care: The program in health and hygiene is designed to provide rural women with skills on how to deal with health problems by providing preventive measures and practical solutions.
• Enterprise Development: This starts with the training of vocational skills and establishment of income generating activities. Project Africa supports women by providing start up loans, equipment, working space, technical advice and training.
• Women's Leadership Academy: Aims to empower women with skills in basic literacy and vocational training.
• Girls' Action Team (GAT) Project: Aims to Mentor girls aged 14 - 20 to be changemakers in their communities.
• Mama Media Project: Aims to empower women with community media and citizen journalism training for human rights and community development.
Lindy Wafula is the founder of Project Africa.
For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
