About us

Wolaitta is the name of both the people and the area in Ethiopia.

Wolaitta Development Association (WODA) is an indigenous, not-for-profit, and local non- governmental membership-based organization in Ethiopia, re-established in Dec. 2000. We are committed to work for socio-economic development of Wolaitta by soliciting resource from the community, governmental and nongovernmental organizations, supporters and other sources and enhancing active community participation to initiate and sufficiently work on demand-driven development programs in the areas of ecologically sound agriculture, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, entrepreneurship development and integrated population health and environment (PHE).

Activities:
• Environmental protection and biodiversity conservation;
• Ecological agricultural and livelihood activities to ensure food security;
• Providing microfinance based saving and credit service;
• Skill development training;
• Clean water supply;
• Basic health service promotion, health facility capacity development, enhanced family planning, reproductive health, HIV/AIDs and other communicable disease prevention;
• Construction of schools and/or education centers, and provision of education materials to promote access and quality education, capacity building interventions for education sector;
• Documentation and development of history, culture, language, heritage; and promotion of ecotourism;
• Organize awareness raising events and training sessions to combat unnecessary and extravagant traditional practices and mobilize community to practically make a difference;
• Promote and develop different socio-economic infrastructures;
• Establish and practically make use of income generating schemes; and
• Provide humanitarian assistance to those needy citizens.
