About us

Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) is an autonomous, non-profit, non-governmental organization, established 1995 and based in Kathmandu, to work for the protection, promotion and enjoyment of women's human rights. In order to eliminate all forms of discrimination, the Forum uses law as an instrument and ensures women's, children's and minority's rights.

We aim to achieve our goals by examining discrimination and working on amending the discriminatory laws, changing social and cultural biases and promoting rights of the socially excluded, disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.

Our goal is to have non-discriminatory uniformed laws and an equal and just society.

Areas of intervention:
• Domestic Application of International Human Rights Instruments
• Combating Violence Against Women
• Protection and Promotion of Human Rights
• The Constituent Assembly

Strategies:
• Draft Proposals on Law/Policy Reformation
• Research: We have executed pivotal researches, including empirical researches, to discover specific existing issues of Nepal . Our researches have proved to be very constructive to discover and comprehend the underlying issues and have made easier the process to tackle these issues.
• Advocacy: We have organized considerable advocacy programs for the ratification and implementation (Strong Concluding Comments given by CEDAW on the basis of Shadow Report presented) of International Human Rights instruments.
• Public Interest Litigations:
• Media: Media is the strongest instrument to increase awareness and that drives people to being conscientious about the existing issues.
• Fact Finding Study
• Trainings and Workshops: For capacity building and disseminating knowledge, FWLD has imparted considerable trainings and workshops to potential lawyers, law practitioners, human rights activists, teachers, police, media, NGOs, grass-root-level men and women

Palita Thapa is the Administrative Officer of the Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD).
