About us

The Chico Mendes Project is a community-based reforestation project located in Pachaj, Cantel, a municipality 20 minutes outside of Quetzaltenango (Xela), Guatemala. Founded in 1998 by a group of Pachaj natives who recognized the need to repopulate the local forest reserve.

Chico Mendes is working to:

• contribute to the health of our global environment by providing oxygen through planting trees,
• increase the local water supply,
• provide necessary resources for the local people, such as firewood, lumber, fabric dye, herbal medicines, and recreation.
•stop erosion,

The Chico Mendes Project run only with volunteers. So we always looking for volunteers.

In Pachaj The Ixim Ulew Rural Language School is a multilingual language school were the benefit go to the community and Chico Mendes. Also the studente are puch to be volunteers in the project Chico Mendes.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
