About us

We are Survival, founded in 1969, the global movement for tribal peoples. We’re the only organization that champions tribal peoples around the world. We help them defend their lives, protect their lands and determine their own futures.

Our mission
We exist to prevent the annihilation of tribal peoples and to give them a platform to speak to the world so they can bear witness to the genocidal violence, slavery and racism they face on a daily basis. By lobbying the powerful we help defend the lives, lands and futures of people who should have the same rights as other contemporary societies.

Our vision
A world where tribal peoples are respected as contemporary societies and their human rights protected.

What we do
• We fight for tribal peoples’ survival. We stop loggers, miners, and oil companies from destroying tribal lands, lives and livelihoods across the globe. We lobby governments to recognise indigenous land rights. We document and expose the atrocities committed against tribal people and take direct action to stop them.
• We give tribal peoples a platform to speak to the world. We’ve had over 200 victories since 1969, but our work is far from over and we need your help.

Campaigns:
• Uncontacted tribes: There are more than a hundred uncontacted tribes around the world. They are a vitally important part of humankind’s diversity, but they face catastrophe unless their land is protected. We're doing everything we can to secure their land for them, and to let them live.
• Tribal conservationists: Conservation must accept the growing proof that tribal peoples are better at looking after their environment than anyone else. The huge sums spent on conservation must be given to the cheapest solution – upholding tribal peoples’ land rights.
• Tribal Voice: Tribal Voice, a project by Survival International, brings the thoughts and experiences of some of the most diverse societies on Earth direct to your screen. It’s time to listen.
