The "Internationaler Versöhnungsbund" (international association for reconciliation) is the oldest Christian peace organization in Germany and in Europe. The armament in Europe for World War One gave the first impetus for its foundation. When they chose its name, they decided on favour of the word "reconciliation" instead of "peace". They wanted more than only the absence of war: they practised resistance against militarization and also against the splitting of society by injustice and oppression.

The "Internationaler Versöhnungsbund" started its life as a Christian organization. In the meantime, however, even many other religious and humanitarian groups and people have joined its almost fourty national branches. The most important of its members stand as representatives for its work: Martin Luther King, Albert Luthuli, Maria Montessori, Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Daniolo Dolci, Dom Helder Camara, Dan Berrigan, Joan Baez, Hildegard Goss-Mayr or Martin Niemöller.

Our peace work stands out due to the fact that

- it is done in an international peace organization,
- it combines social acting with a basic spiritual attitude,
- it carries out different functions with a radically pacifist attitude,
- due to a long-standing tradition the experience of many generations are combined here
