About us

Stiftung Interkultur was founded in January 2003. It is based upon the long-standing cooperation between the preliminary Munich research association and the International Garden Association in Göttingen.

Stiftung Interkultur wants to play a part in changing the concept of integration. The essence of this lies in recognising the value of the migrants’ own impulses concerning the development of a society and to actively mediate these. They include practical skills and diverse social and cultural competences, as well as knowledge which is updated and readjusted during the integration process (the culture of hospitality, intercultural education, contributions to peace and a civil society).

Intercultural gardens are fertile ground for cultivating these skills and knowledge structures. This is why Stiftung Interkultur acts as a federal coordination and service centre to promote and support the networking, as well as the exchange of common knowledge between the various garden projects.

The field of tasks in detail:

• Financing of intercultural gardens
• Advising and guiding the development and financing of new projects
• Networking of intercultural gardens with each other and with other research and development associations
• Accompanying research, documentation and evaluation of the projects and the process of their dissemination
• Interchange of practical knowledge in workshops and seminars
• Association and enhancement of different talks about integration (for example the debate on immigration, research into intercultural relationships and the lifestyles of migrants) as well as active participation in politically relevant debates and public funding policy.

Gudrun Walesch is consultant to Stiftung Interkultur.
