Qui sommes-nous

Solidarität Afrika e. V. is a young and dynamic organisation open to people of all ages. Since 2020, we have been working towards bringing the “Solidarität Afrika” initiative to fruition.
In 2023, we were registered as an association and a legal entity, and since then we have been carrying out projects in the fields of social welfare, integration/migration, sport and intercultural understanding. Dialogue, collaboration and cooperative action are the cornerstones of our work. We see ourselves as a platform for promoting intergenerational coexistence.

Our motivation, our motto (never give up, despite all difficulties)
We see ourselves as the voice of the marginalised, stigmatised and disoriented in Germany. We want to make them visible and audible, and we want them to be recognised, acknowledged and valued by society. Furthermore, we aim to contribute to successful integration through counselling and support.
That is why, in addition to cultural and sporting events, we have planned workshops designed to help new arrivals, particularly those from sub-Saharan Africa, to overcome the challenges they face in Germany – not only to highlight prejudices but also to act preventively. Always on an equal footing and across generations.

Our focus areas
Migration – Integration: As an institution for migrant self-organisation, it is a central concern of ours to offer new arrivals a point of contact and to help them integrate into German society using our experience. Whether it concerns language acquisition or bureaucratic matters – advice and ongoing support are essential for coping with daily life in a new environment.
Sport – Culture: We offer sporting activities for our club members as well as for all friends and partners of the club. Specifically, we plan to demonstrate our commitment to promoting sport by founding a football team. Our team is open to anyone who identifies with the values and goals of our club. Taking part in friendly matches, tournaments and competing in the relevant leagues offers a fantastic opportunity to experience diversity authentically and at first hand. We believe football is the sport par excellence for this.
Social: Socially, our club is committed to helping and supporting older people, children, people with disabilities and others who are vulnerable, in need or disadvantaged.
A platform for personal development: As a young club, it is important to us to foster intergenerational cooperation. The new generation of African migrants is often confronted with being viewed by society as ‘migrants’, yet perceived by their parents as ‘Africans’ – a perception that does not correspond to their personal self-image. This leads to misunderstandings, as there is often a lack of mutual empathy and a willingness to listen to one another. Yet there is so much we can learn from one another, which we can put into practice constructively in our daily lives. It is important to us to develop joint courses of action and learn how to apply them in practice.
Dialogue and acceptance: Building self-confidence is essential for the younger generation of migrants. We see it as our duty to support these young people with a wide range of educational opportunities. For young people who feel at home in two cultures, being perceived as ‘different’ and stigmatised by those around them is often a stressful challenge. Our children need not only constant encouragement, but also the appropriate strategies for dealing with racism in everyday life. As a prospective independent youth welfare organisation, the well-being of children is close to our hearts and is our top priority.
Diversity: The proportion of people with a migration background in Germany is high. According to their own accounts, migrants are very grateful to be able to freely enjoy the freedoms and opportunities for self-development they have gained here. It is also clear that, despite successful integration, many cultures continue to uphold the values of their home countries, which benefits cultural diversity. This relates to many human rights within the European Union, such as the freedom to express one’s sexuality without having to hide one’s true self or fear discrimination. Out of fear of being ostracised or excluded, many people with a migration background are forced to endure this very taboo surrounding sexual expression.

What We Do
• Solidarität Afrika has set itself the task of offering a helping hand to young people of African descent as they discover their roots.
• We are also deeply committed to promoting gender equality and intersex rights within the migrant community.
• In our projects, our activities mainly involve working with community leaders, education, training workshops, and topic-specific seminars and workshops.
• Joint activities such as outings, barbecues or excursions are standard for us as part of fostering lasting community spirit.

Mariam Pembere is the Chairperson and Founder of the intercultural association (Solidarität Afrika).

By arrangement, we can provide consultancy services for other network participants, deliver a presentation, and share up-to-date specialist information and contacts within our field of work.
