Qui sommes-nous

Velafrica's vision is a world in which all people can use the advantages of bicycle mobility to improve their living conditions. The non-profit organization collects used bicycles in Switzerland and Germany, has them repaired in social institutions, and then exports them to partner companies in Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, and other African countries. Over 350,000 recycled bicycles are already making it easier for people there to access education, markets, and hospitals. The establishment of bicycle centers is creating jobs and training opportunities related to bicycles.

Our approach:
• Collection and recycling: By collecting and recycling used bicycles, Velafrica is committed to the long-term and sustainable use of resources.
• Integration and commitment: Over 30 partner organizations in Switzerland and Germany repair the used bikes or process them into spare parts. This work empowers unemployed people, provides training content for young people, and is a meaningful activity for people in the prison system.
• Social entrepreneurship: By exporting recycled bicycles, Velafrica not only promotes bicycle mobility, but also social entrepreneurship. The exported bicycles are sent to bicycle centers and bicycle shops. This creates local jobs in workshops, sales, and administration.
• Mobility, jobs, education: Local populations have better access to bicycles and thus to jobs, schools, and health centers. With programs such as “Bike to School,” Velafrica specifically promotes bicycle mobility among schoolchildren.
• Vocational training: Velafrica not only exports bicycles and spare parts to Africa, but also knowledge. Together with partner companies in Burkina Faso, Madagascar, and Tanzania, Velafrica is opening bicycle repair shops and setting up vocational training programs.
