About us

Togo-Freunde Hannover e.V. is a nonprofit organization that has been in existence since 1979. The association’s work is supported by approximately 200 people, both in terms of content and funding. Togo-Freunde Hannover e.V. was founded out of a personal concern for the living conditions in Togo.
The (financial) aid is intended to contribute to improving the living conditions of people in Togo, primarily in rural areas. The focus is on helping people help themselves.
The aid is primarily provided through institutions (social-medical centers, first-aid stations, schools), training committees, and school funds; agricultural cooperatives also receive grants. Our close ties to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Togo (EEPT) lead us to support church institutions and congregations.
A Togolese man who had lived in Bremen, Hanover, and Mannheim for several years while pursuing his education served as an advisor and inspector for the German board in the country for over 35 years. This ensured that funds were used in accordance with the wishes of the donors and the association.
We now have a new Togolese partner who oversees our projects on the ground: Blaise NYATOLAGBE. He works for our partner organization ATPOAD and is also an important part of our work.
One ongoing project is located in Sodo, approximately 150 km northwest of Lomé. What began as a first-aid station, which has been gradually expanded since 1982, has now become a CMS (Social-Medical Center) designated as an emergency obstetric care unit. An ultrasound machine has contributed to this development. In addition to improving hygienic conditions for storing bodies, the morgue has also had a positive financial impact. After 20 years, the laboratory was expanded and renovated in 2016. We were able to launch the last three facilities and improvements with support from the BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development). The Lower Saxony
BINGO Environmental Foundation contributed to expanding the diagnostic capabilities by purchasing a specialized diagnostic device.
The establishment of a technical vocational school in Sodo, which was taken over by the state in 2013, had a particularly lasting impact. This training center has made the rural area more attractive.
While well construction for drinking water supply used to be a key focus, our current projects are in the following
areas: health, basic services, education, renewable energy, the environment, and livelihood security. Please visit our website for more information!

On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
