About us

Somaliland Youth Development and Voluntary Organization (SOYDAVO) is a local non- governmental organization (LNGO) with its headquarters in the city of Burao, Somaliland, and regional sub-offices in Hargeisa and Erigavo. SOYDAVO was registered in June 2006.
Based on the wide-range of limitations that Somalia and Somaliland faces, SOYDAVO is engaged in multi-sector activities such as education for vulnerable groups, economic development and livelihood support, protection of child and women’s rights, peace-building and reconciliation, psychosocial recovery and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities and culture and society cohesion promotions.

The main target groups of the organization include vulnerable youth, women and children coming from disadvantaged backgrounds such as IDP camps, nomad people and ex-militia.
SOYDAVO also works closely with religious and clan leaders as well as actors that facilitate greater access to their communities.
Other beneficiaries of SOYDAVO are nongovernmental organizations including community-based, government departments, private companies and training institutions.

To achieve a society where children, women and youth are able to live their lives in peace and have their rights safeguarded in order to attain better social, political, economic, education and health standards.

Our Mission
SOYDAVO is committed to working with human dignity, self-development, and to make people promoters of their own growth for women, youth and children through mobilization of their own potential and by implementing projects that meet their needs for education, health, skill training, income generation, sports and self-empowerment.

Our Thematic Areas:
• Protection and Gender Equality: Eliminating violence against women and girls/Children through community mobilizations, engagement of local stakeholders, and improvement of literacy and education of women and girls in Somaliland and Somalia.
• Food Security and Livelihoods
• Peace, Arts, Culture and Society Cohesion: Promoting culture for improved peace and cohesion among Somali communities
• Education and Vocational Skills Training: Tackling Youth unemployment through creation of sustainable livelihoods and provision of vocational training and skills.
• Women’s Economic Empowerment: Economic empowerment of women through the creation of sustainable income-generative sources.

Projects:
• Protection: Reproductive Health and Right Project; Provision of Protection Monitoring & Support for Acute At-risk populations in Lascanood and Buhoodle Districts; Protection and Return Monitoring Network (PRMN); Entrenching Community Mechanisms to Mitigate Sgbv/fgm in the Togdheer and Sanaag Regions of Somaliland.
• Livelihood and Food Security: Livelihood and Food Security; Cash For Work And Unconditional Cash Transfer
• Peace, Arts, Culture and Society Cohesion: Peace, Arts, Culture and Society Cohesion; Promoting Cultural Restoration and Preservation of Tangible and Intangible Culture and Artifacts in Somaliland
• Governance and Democratization: Expanding Civic Space, Empowering Youth and Women to Contribute to the Governance and Development Processes in Somaliland; Empowering CSOs and communities as leading actors and participants in social change and building capacities of local authorities to deliver transparent, accountable people-centered social services

• Education and Vocational Skills Trainings
• Research: To execute a hybrid effectiveness-implementation randomized control trial of Islamic Trauma Healing (ITH) versus delayed ITH to evaluate mental health effects
