About us

The Somali Humanitarian Organization (SHO), founded in 2015, is a Somali-led, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian and development organization giving priority to women and youths. Registered with the Federal Government of Somalia under NGOD/MOIFAR0464/026, SHO is committed to improving access to quality education, essential healthcare, safe water and sanitation, food security, livelihood opportunities, and protection services with a particular focus on women, children, displaced persons, and returnee communities.

Vision
To be a leading globally recognized catalyst for peace, self-reliant, healthy and economically vibrant Somalia through education, social welfare and advocacy.

Mission
To empower Somali communities by offering, designing and delivering well thought out precise, feasible, innovative and sustainable locally led solutions with focus on environmental sound interventions, equity, good government, justice, democracy, Human Rights and enduring stability.

Purpose
The Somali Humanitarian Organization (SHO) exists to enhance access to education and social welfare for vulnerable communities in Somalia, bridging the gap between beneficiaries and international aid agencies to foster sustainable development and emergency relief.

Our programs:
• Free Vocational Education (Light Up Institute): Empowering youth with market-driven skills to break the cycle of poverty.
• Health Care Provision: Mobile clinics and primary health centers serving remote and IDP populations.
• Safe Drinking Water Systems: Delivering clean water through emergency trucking and community tap installations for drought-affected populations.
• Food Distribution & Nutrition: Combating malnutrition through emergency food aid and nutrition education.
• Community Empowerment: Building local self-reliance by establishing community-led councils and cooperatives that transition families from aid-dependency to sustainable growth.
• Human Rights & Advocacy: Promoting equality and protecting the rights of vulnerable groups across regions.
• Conflict Resolution: Facilitating dialogue between communities to ensure lasting peace and security.
• Environmental Protection: Safeguarding Somalia’s natural resources through reforestation and climate-smart agricultural practices.
• Migration Support: We provide emergency relief to displaced persons, strengthen ties with the diaspora through international hubs to channel remittances into local projects, and create sustainable alternatives to unsafe migration through vocational training and reintegration support.
