About us
Action Hope Malawi (AHM) is a registered non-profit organization (MBRS1003750) working in Zomba District to address community challenges such as child malnutrition and mortality, HIV/AIDS-related deaths, poor access to clean water, limited sexual and reproductive health (SRH) knowledge among youth, inadequate early childhood development services, and low education standards. Registered with CONGOMA (C943/2015) and the NGO Board (NGO/L/16/092), the organization partners with community members, caregivers, mentors, women groups, local leaders, and institutions to support children, women, and youth—regardless of HIV/AIDS status, gender, race, or political affiliation.
Our Mission
AHM will endeavor to create solutions to poverty, health, HIV AND AIDS, social injustice, food insecurity, inequality, and environmental degradation in Malawi, with the active participation of the communities.
Our Vision
An organization that empowers the poor, the marginalized, discriminated against to undertake development that is integral and holistic.
Our programs:
• Health: Under the Health Program, Action Hope Malawi works to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS among female sex workers, the youth, and the general population. Through the “HIV/AIDS Prevention, Resilience, and Wellbeing among Female Sex Workers” initiative, supported by AIDS Fondet, we advocate for improved access to health services while directly facilitating service delivery to ensure that female sex workers receive appropriate, timely, and comprehensive care.
• Climate Change & Disaster Response: Action Hope Malawi also implements a Climate Change & Disaster Response Program through the Climate Change Adaptation Modality Project (CCAM), which focuses on strengthening the resilience of female sex workers to the impacts of climate change. Under this initiative, the organization equips participants with practical skills such as briquette making, vegetable farming, and tree planting, enabling them to adopt sustainable livelihoods while actively contributing to climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
• Primary Justice & Gender: Action Hope Malawi also runs a Primary Justice & Gender Program that seeks to uphold the dignity and living standards of all citizens regardless of age, gender, sexuality, race, or occupation. Through the Primary Justice Initiative, the organization provides immediate mediation services and facilitates referrals to the Malawi Police Service, judiciary, health institutions, and local leaders to ensure access to justice and essential services. In addition, through the “HIV/AIDS Prevention, Resilience, and Wellbeing among Female Sex Workers” initiative, Action Hope Malawi works to safeguard and promote the rights of female sex workers in Malawi, ensuring they are protected and treated with fairness and respect.
• Child Protection: Under our Child Protection Program, Action Hope Malawi works to safeguard the wellbeing and livelihood of children—defined as persons under the age of 18. Through the “Improving Lives of Young Girls Who Have Been Removed from Sex Work” initiative, supported by the Kirk Fund through Aids Fondet, we provide vocational skills training to caregivers to empower them with sustainable means of supporting the girls as they return to school. This holistic approach ensures that both the girls and their families are equipped for a better future. The program is implemented in close collaboration with the Social Welfare Office, the Malawi Police, and the Ministry of Education, strengthening our collective efforts to protect and restore the dignity of every child.
