About us

The Network of Düsseldorf Migrant Organisations (NDMO) is an association of initiatives and organisations engaged in intercultural work in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area. The Network of Düsseldorf Migrant Organisations (NDMO) was established in Düsseldorf in November 2016 and currently comprises over 20 organisations.
The NDMO Network is the umbrella organisation for organisations working in the field of intercultural relations in Düsseldorf. It promotes and supports exchange and cooperation between migrant organisations in Düsseldorf. Through its activities, the network improves the framework conditions and development opportunities for its members. Its work shapes and enriches the social and cultural coexistence of people with and without a migrant background.
The purpose of the association is to promote international understanding, tolerance in all areas of culture and international understanding, to assist those persecuted on political, racial, religious grounds or because of their sexual orientation, as well as refugees; to promote education and training; and to encourage civic engagement for charitable and benevolent causes.

Under the motto ‘Strong together in Düsseldorf’, the members of the NDMO have formulated a shared mission statement:
• We see ourselves as a point of contact and advisor to politics, administration and culture in the areas of participation, diversity and integration.
• We see ourselves as representing the interests of our member associations.
• We stand for liberal democracy and a pluralistic worldview: we are cross-cultural, secular and politically neutral.
• We advocate for the equal participation of people with a migration background in cultural, social and political life.
• We stand for social cohesion in diversity.
• We champion the breaking down of artistic and cultural barriers and actively help shape this process.
• We offer migrant organisations a platform for networking and strengthen our member associations through knowledge transfer.
• We promote volunteering and civic engagement.
• Integration is a process of reaching out to one another, which we wish to help shape. Because integration affects us all!
Projects and services:
• samo.fa – Empowering activists from migrant organisations in refugee work: For five years, samo.fa has been empowering and recruiting people with a migration background as activists to support refugees. The aim is to enable refugees to participate on an equal footing in all areas of local and community life.
• Rap against Racism: In 2018, NDMO e.V. continued to actively campaign on multiple occasions for a tolerant and cosmopolitan society, for example through the initiative “Garath tolerant and cosmopolitan”. Together with “Düsseldorf stellt sich quer” and “Rock gegen Rechts”, NDMO e.V. organised a rap concert against racism on 15 September in the pedestrian zone in front of the Garath leisure centre.
• “GLEICH teilhaben” project: GLEICH teilhaben stands for empowering refugees locally, promoting inclusion and ensuring equal opportunities. GLEICH teilhaben is a project of the Federal Association of Networks of Migrant Organisations (NeMO) aimed at fostering a nationwide competence network for refugee work with vulnerable groups within migrant organisations.
• KIWit – Competence Network for Cultural Integration and Knowledge Transfer
• KOMM-AN NRW funding programme: The work of NDMO e.V. is also supported by funds from the KOMM-AN NRW state programme. The programme primarily aims to strengthen and support voluntary assistance for refugees and new immigrants.
• Bunte Düsselpost – Newsletter of the Network of Düsseldorf Migrant Organisations (NDMO e.V.).
• Educational programmes in cooperation with the Paritätische Akademie
