About us

Safa Marwa Relief and Development Organization (SAMRADO) is a Somali-registered, non-profit organization established in 2014. The organization works to promote the well-being, protection, and inclusion of children and youth with disabilities, orphans, and other vulnerable groups affected by conflict, displacement, and climate-related shocks in Somalia.

SAMRADO implements inclusive, community-based and rights-driven programmes in partnership with local communities, government institutions, and national and international organizations. Guided by the principles of non-discrimination, dignity, participation, and accessibility, SAMRADO seeks to remove barriers to education, basic services, and economic participation, while strengthening resilience and self-reliance at community level, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and international humanitarian standards.

Mission
SAMRADO's mission is to advance the rights, dignity, and well-being of children and youth with disabilities and other vulnerable groups through inclusive education, essential services, protection, and community-centred development. The organization works to ensure equitable access to opportunities and to promote meaningful participation in social and economic life.

Vision
SAMRADO envisions a Somalia where all children and young people, regardless of disability or socio-economic background, are able to reach their full potential in inclusive, safe, and supportive communities that respect human rights and equality.

Our programs:
SAMRADO implements inclusive, rights-based and community-driven programmes aimed at improving the well-being, protection, and long-term opportunities of children and youth with disabilities, orphans, and other vulnerable groups in Somalia.
• Inclusive Education Programme: SAMRADO supports equitable access to quality education for children with disabilities, particularly children with visual impairments, orphans, and children from socio-economically disadvantaged households. The programme includes Braille literacy, trained teachers, scholarships, and engagement with families and communities.
• Food Security and Basic Needs Assistance: SAMRADO addresses acute and chronic food insecurity affecting children and adults with disabilities, orphans, and individuals lacking adequate family support. Key interventions include nutritious meals, basic shelter, and targeting approaches that prioritize accessibility, safety, and dignity.
• Disability Rights Advocacy and Institutional Engagement: SAMRADO undertakes advocacy and coordination activities to promote the rights, inclusion, and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities. Activities include engagement with government institutions, policy dialogue, and promotion of inclusive legislation and accountability mechanisms.
• Community Awareness and Social Inclusion: To address stigma, discrimination, and harmful attitudes towards disability, SAMRADO conducts community sensitization and awareness-raising initiatives. The programme aims to: Promote understanding of disability as a human rights and inclusion issue, not a charity concern; Encourage positive attitudes toward children and adults with physical, sensory, and intellectual disabilities; Strengthen community capacity to support inclusive practices
• Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment: SAMRADO promotes sustainable livelihoods and economic participation for youth with disabilities through inclusive skills development and income-generation initiatives. Key components include: A school-based bakery serving as a vocational training and income-generation model; Market-relevant skills development tailored to local economic opportunities; Reinvestment of generated income into education and social support services
