About us

Contributing to improving the living conditions of migrants in Germany. This is inextricably linked to measures and activities aimed at raising awareness of the position of migrants in German society and reducing discrimination, exclusion and racism.
Visiones has a migrant and feminist positioning with a diversity approach and an intersectional perspective. One of our priority issues when we were founded was the fact that degrees from the Global South were not recognised in Germany.

Our areas of activity
We aim to contribute to society through our activities, projects and services in the following areas.
• Promotion of general and vocational education
• Promotion of art and culture
• Promotion of social welfare
In particular through:
• Political education programmes focusing on democracy and human rights, acceptance and civic engagement
• Social projects to improve the living conditions of people with migration experience in Germany
• Cultural projects by migrants (exhibitions, installations, theatre, concerts)

What we do
One of Visiones' goals is to carry out professional cultural work that goes beyond folkloric representations in the cultural sphere. We have organised and continue to organise conferences, educational work, training and empowerment seminars by and for migrants and BIPoC.
The café – El Malecón: The idea was and is to offer a counselling centre: A house for a wide variety of counselling and services, the heart of which is a café offering low-threshold counselling. People can come in without obligation, have a drink, and perhaps just “be themselves” for a while. A wide range of information materials in different languages are available. The people on duty in the café can provide further information, answer questions and possibly offer a little advice if needed.
The advisors are cross-border commuters with their own migration experience. Many of them have years of voluntary experience in providing advice within a community. Their informal knowledge is supported (pedagogy of liberation as a method, theoretical principles of the AGG, immigration law, possible access to the labour market, etc. In 2012, social justice training with a diversity approach was also to be added).
Another goal of Visiones is to build networks: to share our respective skills (language skills, counselling specialisations, professions, etc.) and to strive for networking with political and social institutions, organisations and initiatives that are active in the field of migration and carry out intercultural and anti-racist work. Building trust at all levels is essential.

Projects:
• MyTurn - Take Off! - Shaping career prospects with and for migrant women: Our goal is to support women with migration or refugee experience through group coaching in their first language. Here, women have the opportunity to further develop, rediscover or re-learn their skills and strengths (both professional and personal). The aim is to find work or become self-employed, gain qualifications, achieve personal goals, find a way to combine family and work and/or qualifications. Or something else.
• Projekt ZukunftWeben – TejiendoFuturo: KomBI career counselling with empowerment exercises and an anti-discrimination approach. A professional qualification programme for better access to the labour market

Maria Virginia Gonzalez Romero is the founder of Visiones (Visiones e.V. from 2020).
