About us

Women Education for Health and Development (WOHED) was established as CBO (2012) and then registered as NGO in 2018. With coverage of ASAL areas, we are committed to achieving transformation of communities through blended approaches and community-led ideas and solutions that address key priorities and pressing needs with an aim to influence county progress towards sustainable developments goals.
We have a network of field-based volunteers and experts in all sectors to bring scalable solutions to life across the 47 counties in Kenya

Mission
To support and strengthen the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable members of the society using most sustainable intervention in order to reduce the risk of diseases and socio-economic situations among women and youth in Kenya

Vision
Communities are empowered and free from diseases including poverty eradication

Areas of work:
• Health: We believe that health is an ambition of everyone. Through these services, we hope to reach every segment of the community with basic health needs he/she deserves. Achieving this is possible and we in WOHED use local blended approaches from human-centered perspectives, community dialogues and rapid inquiries to address the key root causes of health inequalities.
• Water & Sanitation Hygiene: We are committed to enhancing the quality of life in underserved communities by improving access to essential infrastructure and services. Our work focuses on addressing the foundational needs that support health, dignity, and sustainable development—particularly for children, women, and youth. Through collaborative, community-led approaches, we promote equitable access to education, health care, clean water, and sanitation.
• Education: Our work focuses on breaking down social and structural barriers that hinder educational opportunities, particularly for children, adolescents, and young girls in underserved communities. By investing in education infrastructure, supporting innovation in learning, and promoting gender equity in schools, we strive to create lasting impact on the welfare and development of young people.
• Climate Change: We are dedicated to promoting environmental stewardship and climate resilience within communities through education, advocacy, and support for sustainable livelihoods. Our approach focuses on creating awareness, encouraging eco-friendly practices, and empowering communities to act against the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation.
• Gender-Based Violence: We are committed to promoting the rights and well-being of women and girls through a comprehensive approach that includes prevention, protection, advocacy, and empowerment.
• Food Security and Livelihoods: We work to combat hunger and enhance community resilience through initiatives that promote food security, sustainable agriculture, and improved livelihoods. Our interventions are designed to support vulnerable populations—particularly those affected by drought and famine—by addressing immediate nutritional needs while building long-term capacity for self-sufficiency and environmental sustainability.
• Empowerment: We belief that all communities have the potential to reach their highest potential. Through skills development and empowering youth, WOHED believes it can fuel the next generation of access to talents and skills necessary for everyone to achieve a good life.
• Countering Violent Extremism: We work to build resilient communities by equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to resist and counter violent extremism.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
