About us

Platform for the Needy (PLANE) is a nationally registered nonprofit organization based in Fort Portal Tourism City, Kabarole District, Western Uganda. Founded in 2010 by a passionate team of journalists and teachers, PLANE is dedicated to advocating for and protecting the rights of children, youth, and women. PLANE spearheads collaborative initiatives that raise awareness about general and reproductive health, with a strong focus on Family Planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR).
Beyond advocacy, PLANE improves access to essential social and health services, supports agricultural value chain development, and empowers farming communities with practical knowledge and resources for sustainable growth.
In addition, PLANE promotes youth empowerment through educational scholarships and community initiatives that foster environmental awareness and conservation.

A just, knowledgeable and violence free society that responds to the rights of the most vulnerable population.

Goal
To improve the lives of vulnerable children, orphans, and widows by promoting education, justice, and sustainable livelihoods.

Programs:
• Faith Builders School Mission: To foster spiritual growth and moral transformation among children and adolescents in schools by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, nurturing biblical values, and empowering young people to live purpose-driven lives rooted in faith.
• Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights Programs: The program promotes informed decision-making, gender equality, and access to reproductive health services through education, outreach, and advocacy.
• Education Program: PLANE runs a comprehensive Education and Child Sponsorship Program aimed at transforming the lives of vulnerable children in Fort Portal Tourism City and Kabarole District.
• Teenage Mothers: The program mobilizes teenage girls from vulnerable communities and equips them with practical skills, knowledge, and psychosocial support to rebuild their lives. The program also includes comprehensive sensitization on family planning and reproductive health, helping young mothers make informed decisions and prevent repeat pregnancies. Through workshops and peer-led sessions, participants learn about menstrual hygiene, contraceptive options, and maternal health services.
• Health & Sanitation: HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention; Family Planning and Reproductive Health; Maternal and Child Health; Immunization Campaigns; Cancer Screening Awareness; Nutrition and Sanitation Education; Malaria Prevention and Control; Hygiene Improvement
• Gender Based Violence: The GBV Program uses media and grassroots engagement to raise awareness, challenge harmful norms, and empower communities to take action. PLANE conducts regular community outreach campaigns in villages, schools, and trading centers to educate the public, distribute materials, and offer counseling.
• Bahemuka Drama Project: Meaning “to be ashamed” in the Rutooro language. It was created by PLANE to raise awareness on critical health issues, women’s and children’s rights in challenging-to-reach communities in the Rwenzori region. Through radio dramas and community outreach, the project aims to educate, engage, and entertain the public by using local dialects and tailored messages.
• Greening Uganda School Projects: To conserve the environment by planting trees in Uganda schools and Communities to mitigate the effects of climate change.
