Über uns
Mission for Emergency Aid and Lifesaving (MEAL), established in 2007, is dedicated to alleviating human suffering and promoting human dignity through community-driven and sustainable development approaches. We focus on building local capacities and empowering communities through inclusive participation to create lasting change.
Mission
MEAL’s mission is to provide immediate emergency aid, foster long-term development, and build resilient communities through collaborative and innovative solutions in Somalia. Our interventions are guided by the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
Vision
Our vision is a resilient and prosperous Somalia where all individuals live with dignity and have access to essential services and opportunities for sustainable development. We aspire to a future where communities are self-reliant and can withstand and recover from shocks.
Strategic Objectives:
• To deliver timely and effective humanitarian assistance to those in need.
• To promote sustainable development and resilience in vulnerable communities.
• To advocate for the protection and rights of marginalized populations.
Our Programs
• Emergency Response: MEAL's emergency response program aims to provide rapid and effective relief to communities affected by crises such as conflict, natural disasters, and disease outbreaks.
• Disaster Risk Reduction: MEAL enhances community resilience by implementing disaster risk reduction strategies, including preparedness, early warning systems, and sustainable risk mitigation practices.
• WASH: MEAL's WASH programs aim to improve access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and promote hygiene practices to prevent disease.
• Health & Nutrition: MEAL provides health and nutrition by providing Community Health & MCH services, immunizations, therapeutic feeding, consultations, and maternal-child health education for vulnerable communities.
• Food Security & Livelihood: MEAL's FSL programs aim to create sustainable economic opportunities and reduce dependency on aid.
• Shelter & NFI Provision: MEAL provides emergency shelter and essential non-food items (NFIs) to crisis-affected households, ensuring safe, dignified, and immediate support for displaced families. The program includes temporary shelters, household kits, blankets, mats, kitchen sets, and other basic items that help vulnerable communities restore stability and protection during emergencies.
• MEAL’s protection program focuses on safeguarding vulnerable individuals with a special emphasis on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Child Protection, providing survivor-centered GBV prevention and response services, psychosocial support, and safe referral pathways, while also delivering child protection interventions such as case management, child-friendly spaces, family support, and community awareness to prevent abuse, exploitation, and neglect and ensure the safety and dignity of women, girls, and children in crisis-affected communities.
• Environmental: MEAL supports environmental conservation through tree planting, sustainable resource management, waste reduction, renewable energy use, and community education initiatives.
• Protection: MEAL's protection programs aim to safeguard the rights and well-being of vulnerable groups, including women, children, and minority communities.
• Peacebuilding and Reconciliation: MEAL promotes peacebuilding and reconciliation by facilitating dialogues, resolving conflicts, empowering communities, and fostering collaboration between diverse groups for lasting harmony.
• Climate Change & Resilience: MEAL supports communities to adapt and build resilience to climate-related shocks through climate-smart agriculture, environmental conservation, drought preparedness, early warning systems, and community awareness on climate change impacts.
