Über uns

Marginalized Communities Advocates Network (MCAN) is a local community-based organization that advocates and fosters the voice of vulnerable communities in southern Somalia.
Established in June 2006 in the East of Africa especially Kenya and Somalia as a CBO, MCAN has grown to a regional non-profit humanitarian and development organization.
We are working to improve the lives and dignity of the Marginalized Communities in the Horn of Africa region through provision of advocacy, protection, water, health, education and emergency relief.

Our mission
To promote, advocate and foster social, economic and political transformations among the vulnerable groups of the marginalized and minority communities in Somalia, in particular youth, children, women, etc towards protection, poverty reduction and economic development and inclusive political participation.

Our vision
Socially, economically and politically empowered society free from all forms of disparity and discrimination

Our Focus Areas:
• Protection Programs: Prolonged displacement and insecurity have led to perilous conditions, particularly affecting women and girls. Our focus is on delivering confidential, survivor-centered responses to gender-based violence.
• Education Programs: We aim to enhance inclusive access and successful completion of education across all levels, bolstering systems, structures, and human resources for efficient service delivery.
• CCCM: We organize the provision of temporary assistance and protection for displaced individuals residing in camps or camp-like environments. This encompasses various temporary communal shelter options
• WASH: Our WASH program aims to contribute to the fulfillment of the seventh Millennium Development Goal, striving to reduce by half the number of people lacking access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation in the regions where we operate.
• Food Security & Livelihoods: Our projects on food security and livelihood address concerns related to production, access, and income, working to prevent and foresee potential outbreaks of malnutrition in the future.
• Health & Nutrition: Our community-centered healthcare approach utilizes an extensive network of community health workers to guarantee that individuals in poverty can avail themselves of high-quality, affordable services.
