About us

In December 1995 citizens of Bochum decided to found the association "Humanitarian Cuba Hilfe e.V." (short HCH)
The Humanitarian Cuba Hilfe e.V. has made it a priority to improve the medical situation in Cuba.

Membership and engagement with:

Tasks:
• medical & humanitarian aid deliveries
• cultural & political projects
• Information work

Focus:
• CURRENT:
As the representative of mediCuba-Europe in Germany, we support the current project, which has a volume of approximately € 2.5 million over a period of 5 years:
Strengthening and further development of microbiological diagnostics in Cuba through the support of the State Institute of Tropical Medicine "Pedro Kouri" (IPK)
• Humanitarian cooperation with many projects, e.g. the office of Eusebio Leal in Old-Havanna (Preservation of World Heritage Habana Vieja)
• Support also to educational projects such as a primary school and a kindergarten in the district of Playa in Havana
• emphasis on the political approach
• Draw a more real "image" of Cuba as an alternative to mainstream media through more events and information on Cuba.
• Collaboration in the boards of:
Network Cuba and mediCuba-Europa
• Organization of round trips with Cuban personalities in Germany
• Organization of theme trips to Cuba
• intercultural art projects here and there
• Information events about Cuba

Also:
• Greece: The "Humanitäre Cuba Hilfe" - Humanitarian Cuba Assistance e.V.
supported, inter alia, also humanitarian projects in Greece in cooperation with the "Hellas Solidarity Bochum"
• Medical care of refugees
• Equally important to us is the development of contacts, cooperation and networking with other groups active in Latin America and Cuba (such as Network Cuba e.V., regional and European networking) and local social, peace-oriented, anti-fascist movements
• ApaMali: In the meantime, in 2011/12 a separate association had emerged from the HCH "Action pro Africa". Medical equipment went under the label HCH in ten 40-foot containers to Mali on the journey. There are now medical, school, well and other projects in Mali. There are still excellent contacts with the friends of ApaMali.
• Filmclub of the HCH: Following the launch of an annual Cuban film festival "Cine Cubano", a new format emerged from this in a private FilmClub in August 2017: Mostly every third Thursday of the month, films from and about Cuba and Latin America will be shown in Bochum in the "Bahnhof Langendreer" shown. Admission free!
