Sobre nosotros

Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) is a non-profit-making, non-partisan non-violent, volunteer citizens´ rights action group, founded in 1999. It advocates fundamental change in all spheres of Jamaican life - judicial, economic, social and political - in order to improve the lives of Jamaican citizens. JFJ believes that justice is the bedrock of any civilised and progressive society, and all Jamaicans must have equal access to fair, correct and impartial treatment. JFJ sees a Jamaica where the rights of all are assured - where there is equal opportunity for citizens to realise their potential and enjoy a sense of well-being.

JFJ sees a Jamaica where our culture is enhanced, respected and shared. JFJ believes that these goals will be achieved when there is a greater awareness of the rights and responsibilities of citizens, and seeks to build links with other like-minded citizens´ groups, locally and abroad.

JFJ committees and their activities:

- Issues Committee: Identifying issues and designing approaches to resolution; finding productive ways to help implement issue resolution.
- Communications & Education Committee: educating the public on the state of justice in our country and on empowerment issues; keeping the public and the membership aware of JFJ´s views through discussion, forums, seminars and working with the media; increasing membership.
- Finance & Fund-raising Committee: co-ordinating and planning of fund-raising activities; soliciting donations and pledges from individuals and the private sector; preparing regular financial statements and strategies.
- Response Team Committee: addressing citizens´ complaints of injustice; conducting follow-up on cases JFJ has adopted; creating a database on all cases.

Apart from being invited to attend regular meetings, members are encouraged to join working committees, attend forums, lobby and campaign on important issues, write letters, and to participate in peaceful demonstrations and marches. You can be as active, or as inactive, as you wish and contribute only what you can in terms of time and money.

Mr. George Cumming is the Director of Jamaicans for Justice.
