About us
The goal of BOCS Foundation is to assist the development of civil society (primarily environment and peace movements, those supporting the Third World, and the related activities of the churches) in hungarian-speaking areas. The foundation supports a network of schools in India as well.
Its major issues are global education, environmental education, ecology, peace, eustice, religion, family planning, sex, third world, development cooperation, philoophy, movement, non-material richness, non-consuming happyness...
Here are some examples of its programmes:
- The Bocs Foundation supports the Education Sponsorship Programme (ESP) school network in Gujarat (India) since 1977, where 30 thousand poor children are learning in 94 schools. The leader of this network is Cedric Prakash SJ, who got in 1995 one of the highest Indian honours, the Kabir Purashkar award. He has visited the foundation five times now. The school-network has been visited by Katalin Simonyi Dr. in 1996, and by Cecília Simonyi in early 2004.
- The Church & Peace European network brings together groups, communities, organizations and churches committed to becoming the peace church of Jesus Christ in daily life and action. It began in 1949, when quakers, mennonites and the church of the brethren (the historic peace churches) joined with the international fellowship of reconciliation to coordinate their activities.
- St. Mary's children's home in Déva (Romania) opened its doors 1993 at the Franciscan cloister in Déva during its renovation. It accepts disadvantaged children from all over Transylvania into our large family and guarantees them total free care including education and upbringing while relying on God's loving providence. As a result of the worsening social conditions, more and more children without families or from troubled families have made our institution their home over the years. Since children have been coming to it continually, it outgrew the cloister building and started buying the twenty units in an adjacent apartment building. Today, thanks to our gracious benefactors, nineteen apartments and four family homes belong to our foundation. Our children live here in "social families" with one or two foster parents.
