Sobre nosotros

TOIT is a non-profit NGO (Non-Government Organization) registered in 2000 that serves to bridge the widening gap in Nepal between rich and poor, literate and illiterate. Our name "TOIT" comes from the French word for Shelter and speaks to our efforts to protect the children of Nepal from the effects of poverty.

Our primary mission is to provide high quality education for poor but worthy children regardless of their origin, cast, creed or gender by linking them with donors willing to fund scholarships.

Our work
• Students: Considering their origin of poverty stricken families, we want our students to receive an education that is geared to their special needs. Apart from common studies in Nepali Culture, Mathematics, Science, English and Art, this especially includes practical knowledge in recycling, agriculture, pottery, field visit, arts and crafts, weaving cloths, alternative resources and handicraft which help them to show their hidden talent that makes their life meaningful to live in.
• School Project: Since 2007, we are sponsoring children having financial difficulties at a local school, `Saras Pathashala´. This school with a vast difference compared to other existing school opened its doors for the children to have better education needed for their life. It has a full curriculum that focuses on developing the children´s creative, theoretical and practical skills. Furthermore, it creates an environment where their low economic status does not hinder their learning.
• Parents: The students´ ability to attend school is greatly dependent on their parents´ income. Being aware of this, TOIT established a Community Project of knitting, sewing, recycling and other projects in 2005 to provide self-sufficiency and safety for the families of the students.

Projects:
• Saras Pathashala: The vision for `Saras Pathashala´ is twofold. Firstly, to provide a high quality education for children from financially disadvantaged families irrespective of their race, caste, creed, sex or religion. Secondly, to serve as an example for other schools as how can we provide modern education needed for life? Besides, the school aims to provide vulnerable children access to modern education for life so that they may secure good jobs and become independent financially and also to educate them with respect for their social, cultural and moral values of the country.
• Scholarship: TOIT has been sponsoring children between the age of 6 to 18 years old at different academic institutions in Bhaktapur. Under this scholarship scheme, there are around 400 children being supported. To prevent any abuse, TOIT applies strict control and selection on each of these families. The application form gathers information on the child but also on the financial and social situation of her/his family.
• Sister school: The cultural exchange with sister schools all over the world plays an integral role in our efforts to provide high quality education to our students. In order to widen their individual horizon we established a number of well-going cooperation with schools in France and China. These usually include the mutual exchange of: Paintings, Drawings, Photos, Arts & Crafts related to culture, life and environment (Twice a year); Letters with greetings and descriptions of school activities, family life and festivals (Twice a year); Videos of school activities and local life.
