Sobre nosotros

The TEARS (Transform Education About Rape and Sexual Abuse) Foundation, founded in 2012 is a Registered NPO and PBO that uses technology innovatively in the scourge against domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. TEARS Foundation provides access to crisis intervention, advocacy, counselling, and prevention education services for those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and child sexual abuse. Confidential services are provided to all victims at no charge!

Our Mission
• To provide free, easily accessible information, to all sectors of our community, for referral of victims to the nearest rape crisis facility
• To aid victims in all aspects of reporting the crime to the police. To aid professionals and organisations to connect with other related service centres
• To provide information and referral of victims to appropriate legal counsel
• To extend the education and awareness of rape with culturally appropriate creative engagement by peer educators

It is our aim to make TEARS the 911 helpline for victims of rape and sexual abuse.
TEARS has designed a unique programme, in the form of a mobile phone portal and website, Through this system, access to legal, medical and psychological support is available on all cell phone networks, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, free or at minimal charge, to every member of society.

Services:
• Help at your fingertips ‐ *134*7355# is a mobile phone portal linked to a database of service providers which provides information via a cell phone using simple prompt based technology which tracks the location of the caller/rape victim and "instantly" (in approx. 45 seconds) send back details of the three nearest care facilities providing immediate support to victims of rape and sexual assault.
• Medi-App: The Medical Information Access Project (Medi-App) allows for medical professionals to electronically record and determine whether a patient has had any suspicious injuries at any other institutions using a cloud-based application. Medi-App is the foundation for a database that can be expanded nationally. The project will be expanded to include rape and abuse. The future project aims to address different vulnerable populations including: children, women, elderly and disabled. This project is focussed on helping health care professionals to identify and record suspected repeated abuse.
• LifeBoard: LifeBoard is an innovative African first. It is an interactive, educational board game that provides a fun and safe environment to teach learners about rape and abuse.
