About us

Founded in 1997 by Laurence LIGIER, CAMELEON is an international solidarity association, with a mission of apolitical, non-denominational charity and assistance.

The association works in the Philippines, in France and in Europe with the support of its partners, its country offices and its sponsors. Our Goals:
• To protect, rehabilitate and reintegrate 110 children, survivors of sexual abuse, as well as to promote the social support and education of their families.
• To provide education, health, vocational training, and financial independence to 310 underprivileged children and their families.
• To raise awareness among the general public and in the media on Children’s Rights and prevent mistreatment and sexual abuse.
• To advocate and lobby decision-makers and politicians.

CAMELEON promotes the idea of a society in which children grow up with dignity, with their rights respected, and in which adults are independent, responsible and kind towards them.

We actively campaign and take concrete actions for the respect of Children’s rights and their dignity. With this goal in mind, our day-to-day work consists of:
• Establishing social, educational and local development programs to protect, educate and (re)integrate abused and disadvantaged children, supporting their families, reinforcing their independence, and developing new economic opportunities for local communities.
• Organizing sponsorship and donation campaigns, evaluating our programs’ impact on the beneficiaries, supporting our volunteers, creating partnerships and finding donors.
• Raising civil society´s awareness of Children´s rights by warning, informing and alerting media, public authorities, institutions and public opinion.

Our areas of work
• Children´s rights

Programs:
• Personal Rebuilding Program:
50 young girls, survivors of sexual abuse, aged 5 to 17, are taken in and housed for the purpose of rebuilding self-confidence and constructing a future. The CAMELEON center situated in Passi allows them to go to school and participate in sporting and recreational activities. A team of specialists provides medical and psychological care as well as legal assistance.

• Reintegration and Independence Program:
The average stay in the center is 4 years. Around 60 young girls aged 9 to 24 are supported until they are reintegrated with their families and join the labour market. They benefit from continuing psychological, medical, and legal support and are given an allowance for their daily living expenses, transport costs, and schooling.

• Education and Development Program:
310 underprivileged children and young adults from 12 to 24 years old living with their families in the villages around the
CAMELEON center in Passi can, thanks to their sponsors, go to school and get to university or professional training.

• Advocacy Program:
Information campaigns on Children’s rights directed at the local population and the media are organized regularly by the CAMELEON team as well as lobbying activities to local authorities. With efforts towards prevention, the Association wishes to end the cycle of mistreatment that degrades the young girls involved.
