Qui sommes-nous

Tushikane, founded in 2009, is a non-profit organisation for the support of people and projects in Tanzania, Africa.

We support people and social projects, especially in the areas of education, water supply, health care, environmental protection and agriculture. We share a love for Tanzania, the conviction that together we can make a difference and a vision that everyone is entitled to live in dignity, no matter where they live.
Activities
• Financial, moral and material support in the fields of education / training, health, environment, agriculture / food and small loans, insofar as this does not require special approval.
• Cooperation with and support from other state, religious non-governmental institutions or initiatives that are connected to the above mentioned purposes.
• Two-way cultural exchange between Germany and African countries with the aim of international understanding.
• implementation of educational measures, as well as measures to help them to themselves, by providing funds or other material resources.
• promoting partnerships among people and between organizations and associations.
• raising awareness of life in Africa among the German population through lectures, briefings, publications, etc

Projects:
• ELIMU – Education and training: enabling pupils of the Kihansi Secondary School to attend expensive Further Education Institutions. In addition, we promote vocational training.
• POLE POLE – Tushikane supports the expansion of the school library. In 2010, 149 books were acquired, to a value of approx. 800 euro. For the most part, these were school text books, as they are in short supply.
• KISIMA – The Society has set itself the target of drilling 26 wells in the Mapanda area, to give the population access to clean water. Exploratory drilling was carried out successfully in 2011. A completed well, including handpump, costs 6,500 euros. A special feature is that the installation and maintenance of the wells are financed in part by the local population, so that they have to make a contribution. It is possible to sponsor one of these wells. The first two were put into operation in 2013, providing clean water for 600 people.
• YATIMA – Support for orphans, e.g. school uniform, rent, writing materials and a fixed amount of money. The high proportion of orphans gives this project a particular significance.
• ARDHI – Land grabbing: Tushikane campaigns for fertile land to stay in local ownership and that it can not be taken over by large international concerns. Some 80% of the population are subsistence farmers, totally dependent on the land.

Further projects are planned in the fields of medicine, health care and agriculture.

Stephen Makinya is the President of Tushikane..
