Qui sommes-nous

The Maasai Children Education (MCE) is a community-based non-profit organization and NGO based in Arusha Tanzania, MCE has been also established to give people the opportunity to work on community initiated projects in developing countries, volunteers work in agriculture, health, education, environment and business development. The organization´s humanitarian and relief work is aimed at building schools, water systems and providing academic scholarship to disadvantaged children.

Our vision at MCE is to ensure quality of life for the orphaned and the less fortunate children in Tanzanian society.

The objectives of the center are to:
• provide care and guidance to the children
• provide quality education
• establish a home where children are safe and feel secure
• network with other organizations to support each other in the effort
• raise public awareness about the plight of orphaned children
• advocate for the rights of children

Volunteer / Intern Program
• Program 1 – St. Thomas Schools: Interns/Volunteers may work at St. Thomas Nursery & Primary School, established in the late 1900´s located in Moshono in the south eastern suburbs of Arusha. St. Thomas is considered to be one of the top rated English medium primary schools in Arusha. Their mission is to teach children ages 3 and above the skills to help shape them into responsible, innovative, and able leaders for the future. Interns/Volunteers help prepare teaching materials, teach English and handwriting, computers, sports lessons, and other activities.
• Program 2 – Women in Action: Interns/Volunteers work with WIA´s base in Tanzania on income-generating and empowerment activities in the areas of social, economic and legal rights at the grassroots level. Interns/Volunteers can work in different sections – preschool, business, management, or home based care.
• Program 3 – Initiative for Youth: Initiative for Youth deals with community development and works with the local government. Interns/Volunteers work with youth clubs, helping students with their studies, life skills, and home based care. They may also work within the agricultural sector to help with new farming techniques, erosion issues and counseling. Meetings are also held on health education.
• Program 4 – Maasai Children Education: Interns/Volunteers work with orphans who are in need of learning life skills and English. Interns/Volunteers also help maintain farms as well as enhancing agricultural techniques and solutions towards environmental degradation. This orphanage coincides with Rehoboth Orphans Family and Precious Orphanage.
• Program 5 – Roots and Shoots: Dr. Jane Goodall, world-renowned primatologist and UN Messenger of Peace has partnered with our organization in the quest for world peace. Interns/Volunteers work at Dr. Jane Goodall´s Institute of Information Technology in Arusha.
• Program 6 – Maasai Children Education: Interns/Volunteers have the opportunity to work with a small NGO that works in Arusha and travels to rural Maasai bomas to help people with specific needs. These needs include: education in nutrition and health for children, environmental conservation, animal husbandry, as well as work in information technology.
• Additional Programming: Interns/Volunteers live together and jointly participate in an orientation, Kiswahili classes, cultural activities, a group trip to a national park, and a final retreat. Program groups also meet for weekly group dinners.
