Qui sommes-nous

The Tartu German Culture Institute was founded in 1992 as a non-profit organisation, financially supported by the German Department of Foreign Affairs.The Institute works in close cooperation with the German Culture Institute/Goethe Institute in Talinn, the Goethe Institute in Riga and the German Specialist Counselling Service. .

The institute’s objective is to raise awareness of German culture in Estonia, to foster contacts between Germany and Estonia and to provide language courses and examinations.

What we offer::
• cultural events such as exhibitions, readings, film, theatre and music evenings.
• a library with specialist literature and teaching materials for German teachers as well as fiction for young and old.
• German language courses: the DKI Tartu provides language courses at all levels and the internationally recognised Goethe Institute examinations can be taken.
• Further education courses and seminars for teachers of German as a foreign language.
• Estonian as a foreign language.
• Early German in kindergartens.
• Children’s Christmas and Easter activities, where they can, for example, do handicrafts or sing songs.
• Seminars on German culture and history.
• individually planned guided tours of Tartu/southern Estonia.
• room and hall hire.

The Institute’s monthly programme can be found in Tartu libraries, at the university, and at the town information centre. We advertise our public events in the daily newspaper "Postimees".

Malle Ploovits is the Secretary of the Tartu German Culture Insitute (DKI Tartu).
