Über uns

Rwenzori Community Development Network (RCDNET) started in Kasese as a Community Based Organization in 2010. It was founded to establish innovative interventions contributing to the alleviation of challenges created by constant wars and HIV/AIDS scourge in the region. The interventions were intended to restore the hope that the community had lost and developing new strategies for the future developments, rebuilding resilient communities.

Mission
To mobilized, equip vulnerable groups at community level with skills and knowledge, and also engaging them at local levels in productive activities for poverty eradication and achieve the SDG.

Vision
A peaceful, poverty free community suitable for sustaining life.

Focus areas:
• Agriculture
• Human rights and gender equality
• Environmental conservation
• Health and nutrition
• Access to quality education
• Peace, justice and reconciliation
• Information Computer Technologies

Projects:
• Environment and Renewable Energies: Tree planting – To mitigate climate change and conserving nature.
• Gender and Human Rights Protection: We encourage the elimination of all forms of violence against women, young girls and children and eliminating negative cultural norms among local communities in Kasese district using the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) methodology.
• Youth and Women Empowerment: We are creating self-help groups of women, girls and youth. We mobilize the vulnerable into groups of similar interest in a particular productive occupation or idea. We provide capacity building to these groups enabling them to achieve their vision. We are using an innovative follow up approach in this intervention and encourage Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA).
• ICT For Development: We offer an E-Participation program where local people are trained in electronic communications including radios, computers and phones. Additionally, we support E-Learning in schools as well as providing support and training for public and private entities.
• Coffee Growing and Market Linkages: Rural Agriculture Extension Model - We have 500 Coffee farmers already profiled and organized in self-help groups. We are currently running rural agricultural extension model services at household level to increase awareness and productivity in Kasese District.
• Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH): We promote universal access to safe drinking water, sanitation and adequate hygiene (WASH) services.
• Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship: We promote vocational skills training for youth, women, men and young mothers with gender and disabilities inclusion, those from minority groups and children living in poor and remote areas are most often denied access to education. This has far-reaching consequences on their future and those of their families, communities and countries. The program goal: We promote free, equal access to quality education for all; from early learning to secondary education. We work with children, their families, communities, wider society and governments, education institutions and advocate at both local and international levels, so that all children are able to get an education.
