Qui sommes-nous

Wheelchairs for Special Disabled Children (WSDC) is a charitable non-profit making organization that was founded in 2013 by John Macquin and later registered with the Ministry of East Africa, Community Labour and Social Protection under the Department office as a community-based organization [CBO] and its registration number is RUA/CBO/5/4/2018.
WSDC is committed to supporting the most vulnerable children, youths including men and women living with a disability within the slums of Korogocho and beyond by mobilizing the Gift of Mobility [Wheelchairs].
WSDC advocate for inclusive and accessible education by actively connecting the committed disabled community with powerful ideas. We work together to make a positive deep-rooted and lasting changes in children, youth, men, and women lives, we place a specific focus on children with disability in our community by providing wheelchairs and of course education to claim and free them from poverty and live positive fulfilling lives.

Our vision is to empower the differently able.

This is a program based on providing free wheelchairs to the most vulnerable person with disability both in rural/urban and prison facilities.
This program was used as a first step to bring together all the disadvantaged disabled community and offering training on life skills such as hygiene and sanitation, vocational training and other related topics such as leadership skills to help influence change.

Our projects:
• Wheelchairs for Children: WSDC works closely with the most vulnerable and less fortunate within the community, those who cannot afford wheelchairs. Our main objective is to make sure that they have wheelchairs so we always partner with other organizations, NGOs, Individuals, and corporates that can provide free wheelchairs to those within our community by doing so we act as a bridge between the donor and the beneficiary. but we came to realize that wheelchairs are not the solution but part of solution t
• Support to disabled prisoners: WSDC work closely with the prison in Kenya to help ensure inmates with disability have appropriate access to programs and services, by providing basic training to prison officials to work with inmates with disabilities. We have two educational programs in prison facilities supporting the management of inmates with disabilities and access to toilets and latrines to improve hygiene.
• Poverty and employment: Our new activity addressed economic empowerment. We seek to empower disabled people over 18 with small business ideas. We have partnered with the Kilimanjaro Blind Trust Africa to train people with disabilities n writing a business plan, business management and other aspects related to creating and running a successful business.
• Hygiene: WSDC have been working closely with Syna consultancy a social enterprise that is dedicated to providing equitable and inclusive sanitation solutions that are safe, dignified and sustainable sanitation solutions for the most marginalized person's with disability therefore WSDC works as a bridge between person's with disability and Syna consultancy. We also provide sanitary towels to girls in schools especially special school and engage them in a hygiene and sanitation and how to handle the towel hygienically.
• Communication: We also have trainings for parents and caregivers who have children who are autistic and cerebral palsy on on basic Communication skills called Agumentative Alternative Communication (AAC). This training not only improves the communication skills between the family members but also the entire community. Our exciting project with Global symbols to help train families to use AAC to follow. We aim to provide introductory training to young mothers and families in how to use low-cost tools to communicate with a disabled child.
