In 2013, our founder, Leon Pope, travelled to Cambodia as part of Maroochydore State High School’s annual humanitarian project. Each year, senior students travel to Cambodia to participate in charitable activities whilst also gaining unforgettable memories and attaining lessons only real life experiences can teach. Finally, on August 10, 2015; Leon withdrew from his university studies to pursue a dream of empowering and helping more people throughout the Kingdom of Wonder. Thus began Project Cambodia!

Our mission
Project Cambodia is a humanitarian project and charity movement. We’re an energetic organisation, enthusiastic about doing what we can to improve and empower the lives of underprivileged people, while promoting sustainable projects throughout ‘The Kingdom of Wonder’.
We provide support to communities throughout Cambodia by working independently, and also with a number of sustainable and credible organisations.

What We Do
Project Cambodia simply exists to help our Cambodian friends. Sometimes we pack pens and paper, and at others we pack a hammer with no idea how to use it. Nevertheless, we always get the job done to a quality standard. When we approach a new project, we do so with cultural integrity and awareness, and the determination to make a positive difference.
Since 2015 we’ve undertaken a number of different tasks that have included education programs, construction projects, rice donations as well as other general donations.

Projects:
• Tokae Rooftop School | Project Cambodia HQ: Tokae Rooftop School is currently in progress! Located in the heart of Kratié, above our very own HQ, we’re beginning a school for our locals!
• House Builds | From the Ground Up: After a village visit in early 2019 we came across a beautiful newly married couple with a newborn baby boy. The home they were living in was barely standing, with holes in the floor and roof. We searched around for a solution to fix or replace the house elsewhere however couldn’t find a suitable option. We decided to do some research, and consulted our local experts. In June 2019 we decided to build our own interpretation on budget housing while taking into consideration quality, changing weather, what is locally available, and most importantly; what the family wanted, and needed. With a budget of 00, and a 7 day time frame; we built our first home. It’s a culturally appropriate 4m x 4m square, with a metal roof, cement sheet walls, built on a supported wooden frame. It’s simple, yet is effective in rain, floods and extreme heat. Even though it looks a little unconventional, it is perfect for providing the shelter the family needed to stay dry and warm in the wet season, and cool in the dry season. Now we have our prototype we know works well; we’re excited to repeat this again in the future. It is a basic human necessity to have shelter, and we’re excited to provide this for more families struggling, and unable to provide this for themselves.
• Project Rice Run: Rice runs are an extremely important project that we undertake. We have a number of steps we follow to ensure those struggling are the ones receiving the rice. We have a field officer who assesses a village and works closely with the ‘Sangkat’; community leader to find families who need this most. We give each family a minimum of 30kg, depending on how many people are in the family. At times this rice can last up to 3 months. Although this is a very simple project, it gives these people a tiny financial break, where they can put their money to their health, homes, and potentially more nutritious additions to their diets. This is completely up to the families, we simply give them this opportunity.
