Über uns

Okoa Maisha Ya Watoto (OMAWA),‘Save Children’s Lives’ in Swahili, is an NGO which was established by a group of teachers in 2010 in Moshi rural district, Kilimanjaro region, Tanzania. OMAWA was established to support and advocate for the needs and rights of vulnerable children(VC) in rural communities irrespective of their identity or background.

Our Vision
All vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDs and poverty to access nutrition, basic services and education so as to make a positive contribution to society for a stronger Tanzania.

Our Mission
We are non-profit organization supporting the education and skills of vulnerable children and thereby create livelihood opportunities and reduce poverty in the rural districts of Tanzania.

• Ensure sustainable hope for vulnerable children, to achieve, promote and encourage them in active participation in informal and formal education, vocational training in order to let them feel acceptable in the society: mentally, physically, socially and psychologically.
• To provide vulnerable children around Moshi rural district in Kilimanjaro with nutritious food, education, and training with a focus on education and self-sufficiency while implementing other sustainable initiatives and building eco-friendly environments
• To mobilize resources for addressing the challenges facing vulnerable children and youth and enable them to realize their full potential through promoting on education, vocational training, psychosocial services and recreational skills.
• To empower women and girls of Tanzania by offering valuable vocational skills training and Income generating activities (IGAs) start up.
• To equip vulnerable women and girls with the skills to gain more lucrative employment which in turn allow them to better support their families
• To be a grassroots, hands-on organization that has a tangible impact on people’s lives
• To help the future generations of Tanzanian women and girls by giving their female children higher expectations of what they can achieve in life

Our work:
• The organization’s main activity is to support vulnerable children to attend school (primary, secondary and vocational training) with particular focus on young girls.
• OMAWA also provides education on HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, and life skills to vulnerable children, young people, caregivers and families through its monthly meetings and home visits that are facilitated by OMAWA peer educators.
• In addition to the provision of material support to vulnerable children, OMAWA provides psychosocial support (PSS) to promote children’s social, mental and emotional well-being and strengthen the capacity of caregivers, guardians and families to care for vulnerable children through creation and establishment of Income Generating Activities (IGAs).
• OMAWA also support Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) to school children through drilling bore holes and wells, constructing toilets, rain water harvesting systems, hand washing facilities installations and conducting WASH trainings to reduce WASH- related diseases for school children in rural districts in Tanzania.
